October 19, 2012 Just another complilation.... NOT!!!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
So I’m aware that there has been some grumbles among the fans about this release. Is it a cop out, a cash cow, Ayu just being Lazy??? My answer…. a resounding NO!!!!
I simply adore this album. True, many of these tracks have featured on previous ‘best of’ incarnations but frankly I don’t care! The song list is seamless pumping you for summer days on disc 1 and relaxing you for long summer nights on disc 2. Furthermore each song has been remastered. I bet there is no difference I hear you shout…. OH YES THERE IS. The quality of older songs like Blue Bird, Hana-bi, Inspire and Unite are crystal clear and brings a whole new lease of life to Ayu’s older classics. Lest we forget this compilation also boasts two new Ayu releases. You and Me is a grower, I like it more each time I hear it and I can’t help but dub it Ayu’s answer to Rihanna’s ‘We Found Love’. Also the album is worth buying alone for her rendition of Happening Here! Previously only heard on her Hotel Love Song’s Countdown 2011-2012 DVD this is a stunning addition to the Ayu catalogue and I’d go as far to say it would be up there as one of my favourite Ayu tracks ever!!!!!
The bonus DVD is also a little Gem, filled with classic a -ation performances.
All in all Summer A Best is a wonderful surprise and one I welcome with loving arms into to my Ayu collection

August 15, 2012 Super Ayu??? Customer Review Rated Bad 2 - 2 out of 10
Considering the high price of this item it is likely that only the most dedicated of Ayu fans are likely to fork out for the privilege of adding this book to their collection. After her previous book releases I was expecting hardback Ayu-epicness with pages upon pages filled with the Japanese goddess, a item worth every penny.
But is the price tag worth it? Sadly it is not!!!

What is on offer here is two ‘books’ but given their page count ‘booklets’ would be a better term. The first ‘Super Ayu’ comes in a super A3 size. Impressive! Yet its content is not so impressive. It features only four different photo shoots, none of which are the best that Ayu has done and is printed on low grade paper. The second booklet, a little bigger than A5, is from her Power of Music 2011 tour. Again this booklet is on cheap paper and to be honest is nothing special. It is like the booklet that usually comes with all her DVD tour releases except it is bigger and without the lyrics.

I expected to be in awe of this super Ayu collection instead I am decidedly underwhelmed and can’t help but wonder why this collection has been given such a ridiculously high price tag. At £30 it would have been reasonable but for more than double that amount I have to say with a heavy heart that it is not worth the money.

Very sad Ayu fan signing out!

June 25, 2011 One of her best yet!!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Undoubtedly this has to be one of Ayu’s best concerts ever!!!

Everything was extra-ordinary, the costumes, staging, lighting... everything came together to produce a unique and stunning performance. I have to confess that her Next Level concert was a little disappointing for me particularly due to her sometimes weak vocals.... but Ayu is back in top form here. Her vocals are once again strong, emotional and breathtaking. I loved the staging for the robotronic ‘Microphone’, the wedding ‘Virgin Road’ and Arabian nights for’ Don’t Look Back’. Ultimately the best part has to be Ayu’s end performance of ‘Seven days of War’. This song is truly amazing and is one that comes alive when you actually see it live... well live on a DVD!

The bonus disc include behind the scenes and the talking parts for the stages.

All in all this is a MUST for Ayu fans and for people who are new to her work it’s a pretty good place to start too!!!

March 16, 2011 Revenge is served!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Confessions is the type of film that lingers with you long after a viewing. Typical of Japanese cinema it is clever, though provoking, witty, controversial and thoroughly refreshing compared to the typical output of western cinema.

Telling of teacher whose daughter was murdered by her students it follows her ultimate revenge on two students who are too young to face legal justice. Taking matters into her own hands the revenge she inflicts is far sweeter than any prison sentence.

Focusing on different characters and their own mini confessions the people in this film are surprising and original. There is no good and bad and you find you must take sides either with a sorrowful yet hate filled teacher whose daughter was murdered or a disturbed yet lonely school boy who has become a murderer. For me the choice was easy...

Directed by Tetsuya Nakashima, whose other films include Kamikaze girls and Memories of Matsuko , Confessions is a step into a far darker world than any of his previous films. This is not a comedy like the others and it is not filled with ornate sets and vivid colours and costumes. However it is beautifully directed and has a wonderfully haunting soundtrack featuring artists as varied as J Pop girl group sensation AKB48 to little known British indie group The XX. The subtlety of Confessions shows that Nakashima is truly progressing into one of Japan’s best directors, he can do the funny flashy stuff and now shows another serious and sensory side to his work.

This has to be one the best Japanese films I have seen in ages (and I’ve seen a lot!!!) and it’s one of the few films where witnessing the destruction of one life brings a happy smile to your face.... justice is served!!!!

March 16, 2011 What is Right??? This album is!!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Well it has been 2 years since Korean supergroup Bigbang have released any material onto the Korean music market but BIGBANG is BACK so hold onto your hats as they are taking the world by storm!!!

Everything including the lyrics, vocals, raps and composing help show just how talented this group really is. In particular the personal talent of GD really shines through as he wrote and co-composed every track on the album. The main plug 'Tonight' is a Ibiza vibed club track taht will have you dreaming of summer nights, 'What is Right' is a electro classic guarenteed to have you singing along and the high vocals on 'Cafe' will astound you!!! Also included are the Korean versions of 'Hands Up' and 'Somebody to Love' which in my opinion are much better than the Japanese originals.

The presentation of the CD itself is wonderful as ever. It comes with a family card and loads of well stylized pics of the boys looking super trendy, super sexy and super cool!!!

The only issue here is the length of the album... considering the quality of the songs, six tracks was never gonna be enougth to statisfy us V.I.Ps but here's looking forward to the second album planned later in the year!!!!

    January 23, 2011 Ayu's coming of age!!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Being a long term Ayu fan I certainly have had my share of faveourite albums as well as some that I didn't think really showcased Ayu's talent... as for Love Songs well that has to enter into my list of all time favourite Ayu albums!!!
Words cannot describe quite how stunning this album is. The songs are a lot more mature and sophisticated that anything that has come before it showing that Ayu, even after ten years within the music industry still has the ability to adapt and produce utterly wonderful music. Love Songs, despite its title, is not an album packed of romantic ballads but is rather a glimpse into the many different types of love from long lasting (Sweet Season) newly found (novemeber) false (like a doll) and even lost love (last angel). As such the sounds of this album is very varied. There are the classic Ayu ballads, but also you will find slights hints of rock and even electro bases on some tracks. However generally this album has a classical feel with a lot of orchestral string work sampled. In truth there is not a single song I dislike but many that I utterly love!

I think my only criticism... which I confess is not really a criticism is that the artwork is a little bland. I prefer images of Ayu in more quirky locations and costumes but here she is in peachy, lacy outfits in a well furnished house which I found a little boring BUT having said this it fits with the album's theme and of course she looks stunning throughout!!!!

I truely think is is some of Ayu's finest work and shows that there is lots of life in the old girl yet ^_^
P.S Congratulations on her marriage... Mannie is one lucky man and her children will be stupidly beautiful and talented!!!!!!!

January 14, 2011 No vocals JUST music Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
Just heard a sample.... the songs DO NOT have any vocals on them. They are just classical arrangements of DBSK songs but the boys themselves do not sing to these arrangements.... it is just a classical music album... it's a pity as I would have brought a copy if it included the boys singing.

    January 8, 2011 Compared to 2010..... Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Well having LOVED my 2010 BB diary I decided to have the boys spend 2011 with me too!!!

    Plus sides....
Now this diary is VASTLY different to that of 2010. For starters you don't get one.... oh no.... you get SIX mini diaries that are stored in one hardback folder!!! Basically the first five are dedicated to one member and the last is for all the boys together.... so for example the first diary for Jan and Feb is dedicated to GD and EVERY TWO DAYS you get a new GD photo so there are LOADS MORE than in the 2011 diary. Also the fact that you get six indivdual diaries that are each quite small is very useful as it makes them easy to carry around with you as the 2010 was more bulky in your bag!!!!

    Dowsides.....
The overall size is about half of that of the 2010 one.... smaller pictures :( but there are more of them :).
Also I am not as keen on the photos compared to those in the 2010 diary. for 2010 the images were more creative and quirky... GD with his popcorn hair and the boys in fancy fashions pretending to be super heroes was fantastic. The images for 2011 are more your standard brooding/ smiling/ serious boy band affairs... but hey, it's still the BB boys and any photo of them is pretty darn hot so it doesn't really matter!!!

Overall.... go on spend 2011 with five of the hottest guys in Korea.... you know you want to ^_^

January 8, 2011 Piko does it again!!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Well here is the second release from Sony’s new artist Piko. Following on from his debut single ‘Story’ is ‘For-get-me-not’, another melodic rock ballad that is the perfect showcase for Piko’s wailing vocals. Again Piko’s voice is stunning to listen to on this track showing both its potential power and sensitivity all in one hit, although perhaps this track isn’t as memorable as ‘Story’. Again as with his first single you get two further tracks, the first (sorry but I don’t know it’s Romanised name ^_^) is a cutesy number complete with softer vocals and a tinkling chorus. This song really isn’t to my liking as it sounds a little dated and doesn’t pack the same punch as his other songs. The third track is called Stardust and is written by Piko himself!!! Despite its sweet name this is a much stronger song than track 2. I love the changes from the laid back guitars on the verse to the more frantic tempo on the chorus and Piko sings a little deeper showing the full range of his voice.

I hope Piko gets more recognition for his talent in 2011 and I can’t wait for the release of his first album!!! Piko is definitely one of the most promising, talented and interesting artists in the Japanese pop industry today!!!

January 8, 2011 New J pop Diva in Town!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Jasmine is a new discovery for me and thank God I have found her out!!!!
Her album Gold is simply wonderful. With a mixture of R’n’B, pop, electro and ballads this album has it all. Jasmine’s voice is a combo of Namire Amuro and Ayumi Hamasaki and like Ayumi she writes and composes all of the songs featured on the album, which is always nice to see ^_^. To be honest it’s hard to pin point the best tracks as to be fair there are so many hits but I think the r’n’b ballad Cry, the ridiculously addictive electro pop anthem L.I.P.S and the rock chick track Bad Girl has to rank amongst my top three. To be honest I am a bit astonished that she isn’t a bigger star than what she is but I think if she keeps making music of this quality it won’t be longer before she is a strong contender of the J-pop diva crown!!!

    (WITH DVD VERSION)
This release also features a bonus DVD of 5 music videos. All of them show her in various colour coded ensembles, my particular favourite being the purple geisha look for Jealous (Nikki Minaji eat your heart out!!!).

October 12, 2010 Amazing talent!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Piko has one of the most refreshing singing voices I have heard in ages. Classed as a Ryoseirui singer, meaning he has the vocal range of both a male and a female, Piko’s voice is truly extraordinary. Although he has been performing for a few years now and has become a favourite on the Japanese version of You Tube with his anime songs (he even has a album out called Infinity) this single is to be considered as his first as a major artist. Recently signed to Sony, Piko is now attempting to break into the mainstream Japanese music industry and considering the quality of this release I don’t think it will be long until he is a established star!!!

The title track ‘Story’ is a powerful rock/ballad hit written by Piko himself. Sure the initial novelty is that he basically sounds like a girl, but move beyond that and not only are his vocals ‘unusual’ but they’re also beautiful and utterly heartbreaking. The other two tracks are much the same in terms of their rocky / ballad style but each showcase’s Piko’s talent wonderfully.

I am so excited about this artist I really hope that his conquers the J rock world as his talent his is so unique. I look forward to his next single out in December. So go on take a chance on this artist, and expect big things from Piko ^_^

October 7, 2010 Perfect mememto of the series Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
For fans of J Drama Tumbling this photo book is a MUST buy!!!
Packed full of stills from the series and character photo shoots, as well as glimpses behind the scenes, this book is the perfect memento of one EPIC J drama. There are interviews with each actor... which unless you can read Japanese is pretty useless… but nevertheless the accompanying images easily make up for it. There are some lovely special features also included... You get a double sized A3 poster and two sections in the book that are secretly sealed and require scissors to open… one reveals some hilarious behind the scenes snaps the other is a photo featurette on the bath house sequences…. very nice indeed!!!

September 19, 2010 Polish those reading glasses Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
There are already a VAST amount of reviews regarding this series, so I'm not going to bore everyone by rehashing what everyone else has written …. but in a nutshell ….the series is both witty and challenging in its focus on sexuality in modern Korea but some characters feel under developed and the ending was a little abrupt.

What I want to focus on this the particulars of this Hong Kong release. The quality is excellent and you get both the original Korean soundtrack or can flick it over to a Cantonese dubbed version. In addition to the full series there is also a bonus ‘making of’ documentary complete with Eng subs. The only issue I have with this release is that while you can opt to have English subtitles you can’t remove the Chinese ones. This means you have both English AND Chinese subs on your screen at the same time which is a little frustrating as while the Chinese text is rather large the English text is quite small. Better polish those reading glasses!
