Part 2 Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
So here I am with a review for Part 2. The series carry on with WFH being tested for his patience because his disciples Ah Foon, "7 Foot", "Bucksteeth", Butcher Wing and the 2 sisters repeatedly get themselves into trouble despite Sifu's constant reminder that they must always think before they act.

The opening episodes carry on from some vampire theory whereby Shi San Yi was hellbent on investigating. Total waste of time and I'm forced to think 'what's the scriptwriter thinking?" . The second sideplot wasn't too bad when WFH was 'forced' to appear before the Emperor and was offered the job of Chief Security Instructor and he skilfully untangled himself from that commitment. The last story was ok when it involved the Japanese occupation of Canton. Here, Ah Foon found himself falling in love with a good samaritan who offered food, shelter and medical help to those poor wretched villagers bullied by the Japanese merchant=turned=tyrant controlling everything in the town. She happened to be the tyrant's daughter and is the total opposite of her brother who's a chip of the old block. As the episode draws to a close, the audience would think that WFH will finally pop the question to SSY when he returns home but unfortunately, all we get is a big hug. What a killjoy!

So, overall the title to this show is misleading. The script could explore a little further the relationship between WFH and SSY e.g. planning their future, heartfelt conversations, etc. , yet theirs is an unspoken 'you-know-how-I-feel' sort of atmosphere and have that wait=and-see attitude. 25% of screen time were wasted on clueless conversations and childish impatient behaviour among the disciples , not much kungfu practice here. I felt the 2 sisters were thrown in as eye-candy . Costumes were ok although you could see the same actor and outfit over at least 3 episodes sometimes , budget?? What annoys me is some hairstyle does not go with that era, girls spotting that irritating 'fringe over half -a-face look' and one self-proclaimed 'westernised' baddie even spotting a 'tomahawk' haircut. It's laughable really.
Gordon did get a few moments to display only 40% of his skills and we have to rememeber its a tv show.

So, did I get what I paid for????? NO! but only watched it because of Gordon.

This customer review refers to Huang Fei Hong And Shi San Yi (Part I) (Ep.1-24) (To Be Continued) (China Version)
Part 1 only Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
While I was under the impression that Gordon will once again display all his skills in the leading role of Wong Fei Hung in this made-for CCTV drama serial, I was not rewarded. As the title suggest, it's about his relationship/development with Shi San Yi (the part played by Rosamund Kwan with Jet Li in Tsui Hark's trilogy). While Wong's character is often the strong but silent type (in the romance dept), he realised he has to admit his true feelings for Shi San Yi when there's a new love rival trying to win SSY's affection. Of course we know SSY really love WFH but just waiting for him to pop the question. Most of the costars are from China except Flora Chan. An impressive opening scene with Gordon and the rest so far consists of little sideplots. OK to follow through cause I've just ordered Part 2 of this serial and will write a review later for that. Gordon speaks pretty good Mandarin and I have no idea why they dubbed him. Most of the cast speaks cantonese (if you lip=read) and they're all dubbed, apart from a couple who you can tell is actually speaking mandarin. I was told this was not shown in Hong Kong, all the more the producers should have it in dual language format.

As you can tell, I'm a Gordon fan, that's why I'm watching this serial.
