Very good movie
| The Blu-ray quality was excellent! Vivid colors and beautiful scenery. The story was interesting, although I think the ending was dragged out too long. Shu Qi is great as always |

In "If You Are The One", Ge You plays Qin Fen, a middle-aged, average-looking man of no particular accomplishment, who returns to China after washing out in his attempts to make it big in America. However, it appears that his luck may have turned. He persuades a wealthy entrepreneur to pay millions for the rights to his rather silly invention, a device to prevent people from cheating at the "rock, paper, scissors" game. With his new wealth, Qin Fen turns his attention to finding a wife. He posts a personal ad on the Internet, in which he describes himself with laughable honesty. Will any women respond to an ad from someone who presents himself as such a loser? As it happens, yes, lots of beautiful women turn out to be interested and what follows is a series of meetings ranging from hilarious to poignant to just plain silly between Qin Fen and the women. (Vivian Hsu stands out in a cameo role as one of the desperate women.) Of all the women he meets through the ad, Qin Fen can't forget the lovely but deeply troubled flight attendant, Smiley (Shu Qi). Smiley seeks a kind of emotional safe haven in Qin Fen, as she still is reeling from having her heart broken through her heedless love affair with a dashingly handsome married man (Alex Fong). While it might seem flat-out absurd to consider the possibility of a relationship between a beauty like Shu Qi and an older, average-looking joe like Ge You, what makes this film work so well is the complete honesty with which it handles the growing affection between Qin Fen and Smiley. This honesty is bolstered by the unmannered, unaffected, unvarnished performances by Ge You and Shu Qi. Both manage to bring their quirky, colorful characters to very vivid real life. With a terrific script that permits these skilled actors to behave like real people behave and feel what real people feel, the viewer can't help but root for a happy ending for Qing Fen and Smiley. Will they get one? Watch this delightful confection from director Feng Xiaogang to find out! |
