story impossible Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
I was expecting an interesting time travel story but apart from the pretty face of the female lead, and the unusual site of the house, the rest is quite unrealistic. Surely any little thing you changed when you travel back in the past would have a huge impact on the future. It is impossible. The ending is a happy one but very unlikely to happen.

errrr... Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
I had high expectations for this movie but it has "failed" me. The pacing of the story was slow which kind of bored me.

The last part is to be looked forward too though.

Just Ok Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I wasn't really impressed in this movie. Actually, you really have to put you heart into it while watching otherwise, you may not understand why and how it transcend into another time.

I was surprised that Hollywood bought the rights of this movie when there are other korean films that i would say better than IL MARE.

Love transcending time Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Having never seen the US re-make (The Lake House), I am afraid I can't provide a comparison. But on it's own, I truly enjoyed this movie. Even though the premise is clearly unrealistic (if that bothers you, maybe you should stop taking everything so seriously...), the romance feels real enough to keep your eyes fixed on the characters. My primary concern was that the characters would just leap right into the unrealistic premise without any explanation, but my prayers were answered and this film delivered it well. I really enjoyed how these characters seemed to find eachother at just the right time in their lives... they both really needed eachother. And that is what adds to the tragedy of the ending (yes it does have a relatively sad ending... I mean come on, it's a Korean movie).

Bottom Line: The bond the two forlorn characters form through the means of a "magic" mailbox will stick in your mind. And while some bits of foreshadowing are a little too obvious, the performance of the actors and the innate romance make this a movie worth seeing (and probably worth owning).

Il Mare (HK Version) Customer Review Rated Bad 2 - 2 out of 10
For a romantic drama I would rate this movie a 3.5. Although the story and ending were predictable, the movie was well paced and enjoyable.

Having to watch this movie with english subtitles, I have to admit that I was thoroughly disappointed. Often times the sentences were incomplete or cut-off and as a result made little or no sense, this problem was compounded further during important dialogue. Hence I would give this version of Il Mare a lowly score of 1 overall.

Given that this is an official release from Edko Video, I have to say I'm doubly disappointed. I had similar problems with "My Sassy Girl (HK Release)" also from Edko. At least for that one I could understand the cantonese, but the english subtitles were attrociously inaccurate. Very disappointed - YesAsia should make the US edition of Il Mare available on their global site.

great movie -- bad formating Customer Review Rated Bad 3 - 3 out of 10

This review is related to the 'Tai Seng' release of 'Il Mare Mandarin/Cantonese Dubbed Version/US Version).

The movie itself is great - but the stretched screen, the poorly execute design of the menus, the front and back of the dvd art are not up to standards. Other than that I would have enjoy this wonderful film. They did include the some original artwork including the photo gallery, still they could have done better for a film this good. I don't mind the dubbing, some people might not like it. Usually Tai Seng videos are better than this. I'm wondering if the version at taiseng.com is the same version - the cover art work is sure looks much better than this.

I hope they released a better version in the future. It's truly an amazing film.

Great Movie Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This movie is awsome. I've seen it a while ago but just forgot to write a review for it. The story is very creative and romantic. There is an American version of this called "The Lake House" and in my opinion the korean one is better. This is worth buying.

touching film Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
I got this VCD wanting to see to original before the american "the lakehouse" comes out. Never impressed with american versions of asian films like "shall we dance". Anyway this movie definitely pulls at your heartstrings but does not dissappoint. The time difference thing is always a difficult and frustrating thing to try to comprehend. Just take it at face value and dont think about it. Jeon Ji Hyun is hot as usual. Still like her best in my sassy girl. VCD quality is as expected for VCD. I wanted to get the DVD but it was out at the time I wanted it. Looks like DVD is back in stock. WOuld recommend DVD quality over VCD any time.

Warning Subtitles aren’t very good Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
I must say that I totally agree with the review on this website.

http://koreanfilm.org/kfilm00.html#ilmare

This is a good film but not a great one (like “My Sassy Girl?. It is beautifully filmed and the soundtrack is great but the little things let this package down. For a “limited edition?package, I would have thought more care would have been put into the subtitles for the film. As someone who can’t speak Korean, I was able to understand what was happening but it was still quite difficult as the subtitles are littered with grammatical and spelling errors.

I would recommend one of the other editions to non Korean speaking people wanting to purchase this film as the subtitles in those versions may be better.

The good news is that if you liked the music in the movie, the limited edition package includes the motion picture soundtrack.

A touching film Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I love this movie. Some people can find it boring maybe because there is no guns nor explosions, only a relation of two persons. I think the end really touching. The house place gives the audience a feeling of loneliness and sadness that really fits the story. I think the matter of a mailbox can do a thing like the mailbox of the movie can do, it's not important because the important thing in this film is the relation of the two persons.
