Beautiful cinematography and a nice story. It's one of those "which happened first" stories. I felt like the timeline could have been a little more than 2 years to create a better movie, but oh well. If you liked Ditto, Sky of Love....then see this!!

Subtitles Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I have the Overseas Version and I must say for those who indicated poor English subtitles, I definitely recommend you get the above O.V. instead. Grammatically sound and timing is spot-on. However, if anyone else has the O.V. disc, have you noticed that the subs get chopped off the screen and don't appear on a second line below the first sub line? I've decomposed the DVD to see the subtitle's raw data and there doesn't seem to be anything there on the disc. Any input there would be appreciated.

Otherwise, regarding the movie: Must be my all time favorite movie! Watched it about oh, 10 times ever since I saw it in Japan... Excellent soundtrack (notably the BGM and "Must Say Goodbye" in both English and Korean are crucial to bringing out the story)... (Can't seem to find it at any Karaoke boxes... anyone find it?)

Must buy for Il Mare fans.... Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Just recieved this DVD, much better picture quality than the chinese Reg 3 version which I have. Also comes w/extras DVD, definitely a great buy. COmes with very nice case. Oh, and of course, an excellent movie to enjoy. Subtitles look better also, not cut off or incomplete like previous DVD versions.

This is by far one of the most wonderful films I have experienced. Forget the magical time thing. The relationship development and communication between the two major characters is well done. The scenery and landscape shots are very good, especially with a HDTV and a progressive scan DVD player. One can also appreciate the architectural beauty and complexity of IL MARE. A worthwhile addition to any DVD collection.

ive watch this a while back. its definetly worth it. i never watch a movie with this kind of story. i think its pretty creative. go buy it now! not to mention ji hyun is real pretty in it also. ^_^

Not a rip-off. A romance movie you can watch more Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
The fantasty element of 'time' really doesn't matter here... The movie could've used any other concept, as long as it portrays the difficulty of communication between two individuals well... If you watch carefully, and really think through, the time-gap does make sense... logic is not a problem with this film... the problem is watching this movie trying to figure out why they can communicate years apart... the central theme here again is communication... this is not an all sci-fi film... for me, watching the two leads facing such an invisible/uncontrollable barrier made this film quite interesting and painful... This movie's one of my favorite and one of the most beautiful ramance films that even guys can enjoy watching repeatedly.

Best Movie in the World Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Il Mare is such a fantastic movie. I have watched many Korean movies and I will have to say that this one is the best. It is a love story about a house and a mysterious mailbox that acts as a portal of time. Sounds Science Fiction? Maybe, but thats beyond the point. The actions between the two main leads and the feelings they feel are so real that you too become absorbed in the magic of Il Mare. I left this movie wishing that I was one of the main lead, but I guess I can only drink a beer and run ;)

Not for me. Ripe off of a great movie call DITTO. Subs terrible and it doesn't compare to the foremention movie. If you have but one movie to see, watch DITTO.

English Subtitles Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
I was going to buy this film months ago but after reading a review that praised the film but also mentioned terrible English subtitltes I decided to hold off.
I was delighted when I saw that a SE was being released and assumed that the subtitle problem would be corrected by the adding of a new subtitle track.
Sadly I was wrong...the subtitles are awful, so bad that one way or another almost every line is incorrect.
The worse offence is when wrong words/phrases are used and you have to put the correct translation together in your head. This takes you away from the film for a few seconds and you lose the moment.
A previous reviewer said that you can still follow the film despite the poor subtitles, while this is true you have to work at it and as a result it takes away a
lot of the pleasure of this lovely film.
However when it comes to repeat viewing the problem won't appear so bad as you would know the story.
Overall...great story, the music is lovely but really crap subtitles!
