Moon Chae Won (The Princess' Man) takes her first starring role as a spoiled young woman who learns to grow up when her family falls on tough times in the SBS drama I'm OK Daddy (a.k.a. It's Okay, Daddy's Girl). Veteran actor Park In Hwan co-stars as her father, while Choi Jin Hyuk (I Need Romance) charms as the kindhearted guy who wins her heart. This warm family and romance drama also features Super Junior's Lee Dong Hae (Skip Beat), CNBLUE's Kang Min Hyuk (Heartstrings), former Baby V.O.X member Lee Hee Jin (The Greatest Love), singer Kang Sung, and Jeon Tae Soo (Sungkyunkwan Scandal).

Chae Ryung (Moon Chae Won) is a daddy's girl who's never had to worry too much about life. Everything changes though when her father (Park In Hwan) is not only seriously injured in an accident, but also suspected of accidentally killing someone. Suddenly, Chae Ryung has to help support the family and strive to clear her father's name. In this tough time, she finds kindness and support from an unlikely source, the victim's brother Hyuk Gi (Choi Jin Hyuk), who believes her father is innocent.

It's not special, but that's OK
Before her big breakthrough with The Princess' Man, Moon Chae Won got her first leading role the year before in the SBS drama It's Okay, Daddy's Girl (a.k.a. I'm OK Daddy). In the 17-episode family and romance drama, she plays a spoiled daddy's girl who is forced to grow up after her doting father, the breadwinner of the family, falls ill.

The narrative setup for the series is on the melodramatic side. Chae Ryung's (Moon Chae Won) father (Park Tae Hwan) gets into a scuffle with a young man, who dies soon after from a head injury. The father is so devastated by his possible responsibility for the death that he collapses. Chae Ryung's family breaks the bank to provide consolation money to the victim's money-grubbing parents, leaving the family poor and displaced. The victim's brothers, Hyuk Gi (Choi Jin Hyuk) and Wook Gi (Super Junior's Lee Dong Hae), meanwhile suspect that the perpetrator may actually be someone else (namely, Jeon Tae Soo channeling his Sungkyunkwan Scandal persona as a rich, bug-eyed sociopath who likes Chae Ryung). Feeling guilty about Chae Ryung's family situation, Hyuk Gi and Wook Gi reach out to help them and investigate the case together.

It's Okay, Daddy's Girl isn't very well written or directed, but it does strike the right tone and find the right characters to appeal to the audience's better selves. The drama very much centers on Chae Ryung's personal growth, her relationship with her father, and her budding romance with Hyuk Gi, forming a story that is simple but rewarding. With the exception of Jeon Tae Soo's character, It's Okay, Daddy's Girl is filled with good people to counter the misfortunes. Choi Jin Hyuk and Lee Dong Hae's sad-puppy brotherly duo are kind and patient to the highest degree, and their lives, though full of hardships, are also full of friends who lend a helping hand - just out of the goodness of their hearts. Even the rich playboy (Kang Sung) that Chae Ryung's sister (Lee Hee Jin) marries out of convenience turns out to be a good guy.

There's something believably warm and sincere about the world It's Okay, Daddy's Girl has created that makes it more uplifting and memorable than many other Korean dramas I've watched. Though the drama is not particularly special or exciting, it makes a nice watch (or rewatch) for a quiet night. Those who like weekend family dramas would probably also like It's Okay, Daddy's Girl.
