1980s Hong Kong policewoman movie series In the Line of Duty made Michelle Yeoh the number 1 action actress. After two films, Yeoh left the franchise, and producer Stephen Shin found an unknown actress from Taiwan to be her replacement. That unknown was Cynthia Khan, and she filled Yeoh's shoes admirably, even managed to establish herself as a top action star beginning with the third film made in 1988. Co-directed by action choreographer Brandy Yuen and famous cinematographer Arthur Wong, In the Line of Duty introduced the promising newcomer to the audience, surrounding her with a big supporting cast that includes the legendary Kamen Rider Fujioka Hiroshi, Shaw Brothers star Yueh Hua, and veteran actor Paul Chun. Viewers will also find the comedic cameo appearances by Eric Tsang, Richard Ng, Stanley Fung, and Sandra Ng, plus an uncredited but memorable role for Mortal Kombat action star Robin Shou.
The explosive action begins in Tokyo when an exhibition of the works of renowned jewelry designer Yamamoto (Yueh Hua) is raided by a couple of robbers. The pair then flee to Hong Kong to buy arms for the notorious Red Army. Japanese cop Okada (Fujioka Hiroshi) follows the terrorist couple to Hong Kong, and Madam Yeung (Cynthia Khan) of the Royal Hong Kong Police Force is assigned to assist him. Okada prefers to work alone, but when their investigation leads them to the realization of the identity of the mastermind behind the heist, the two cops must join hands - or rather fists - to bring down the terrorists and the arms dealers...
