A Very Good Movie By a Great Actor and Director Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Tony Leung is the most versatile and magnetic actor
in Chinese cinema today. This movie is a very good
example of it.
I watched both this movie and "2046" which is currently
showing in Northern California and has received great
reviews. It's a great accolade to Leung and Wong, the
director and rightfully so. This movie is interesting, moody and romantic. In other than Wong's hands, it may not have worked. Both Leung and
Cheung are wonderful in it.
Tony Leung can play any role better than most and he
is always so fabulousely attractive! A real jem in
the Chinese entertainment industry and pride of Hong
Kong. Like the French Government who always recognizes
the heros in Art, let's hope Mr. Leung will get his
someday that would put him far above the most.

The most beautiful love story ever made Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
The exquisite beauty of Maggie, and the charmingly handsome Tony, blended with the unbelievably haunting music and heartaching story, makes this film
unequalled. One cannot help feeling the emotional pain of these two lonely people. This is the most loveliest of love stories I have ever seen, I have seen it so many times, I feel part of it,to see Maggie cry, almost broke my heart, wonderful film.

Still As Good As Before Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
ITMFL has been released on DVD in many versions, with different bonus materials. This time round, disc 2 contains the 4 deleted scenes (incl the secret in room 2046) and a few more interviews with WKW, Tony, Maggie and even Rebecca Poon. There is even a funny deleted scene of Tony and Maggie dancing. Of course, the bonus materials cannot be complete, unless all the press conferences were included. The US criterion edition of ITMFL even has introduction to individual actor/actress, and WKW, with trailers of his previous movies. Their is even a hidden feature of Tony's MV. Looks like fans of ITMFL needs to collect the full collection of DVDs available in teh other part of the world... One in all, ITMFL still remains my favourite movie in HK's film history.

An excellent movie with an excellent remastered DV Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
This is the third In The Mood for Love DVD release by Mei Ah and this is the best one. The movie is good, excellent performances from Tony and Maggie. An excellent film made by Wong Ka Wai. This movie also inspired the US film, Lost in Translation. The first DVD, was a barebone disc, containing only the movie with a non-anamorphic transfer. I own the second edition, which is a 2-disc set. The second edition has good extras, including four long deleted scenes, interviews, awards ceremony and etc. But the video for the second edition was terrible. The video was again non-anamorphic and the colors of the transfer were so poorly done, it couldn’t even bring out the film’s beautiful cinematography. The audio was also terrible, there was hissing sounds found in all audio tracks and was it really necessary for two DTS tracks? This new and remastered DVD contains a beautiful restored anamorphic video. Colors are vivid and rich, skin tones are perfect, and the cinematography in this movie is breathtaking. As for a completely character driven movie, the audio was still top-notch for both Dolby Digital and DTS tracks. Excellent separation and positional audio during raining scenes and a strong base every time the movie plays the theme music for the movie. Finally, there are no extras presented in this disc.

Haunting Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is a bittersweet tale, achingly sad, about two people whose paths cross when their spouses begin a love affair with one another. These are people who live across the hall from each other in a cramped and crowded building. They are pulled together in their need to share the pain each feels at his/her own personal betrayal from the wayward spouses. The sensual agonizing denial of each of them toward the other is haunting. It is beautifully filmed. Very erotic. Wong Kar Wai favors Tony Leung Chui Wai and Maggie Cheung and with good reason. They are both incredibly lovely. They portray Characters with...well, “character? No matter what the film, they exude a smoky passion (think ”Hero?and ”Ashes of Time?. They are both wonderful, versatile actors and well cast in these roles. Here’s the thing...every review I have read talks about their unrequited love and how poignant this is. Either I read something into the film that wasn’t there, or everybody else missed it! Watch for the scene where, while heading home in a shared taxi, Maggie’s character states that she doesn’t want to go home. Yes, it is wistful, but then there is an ending that is, indeed, poignant and involves a very important near miss. One day some years later, Tony’s character comes by the building and knocks at the door of her old flat. He is obviously disappointed when a stranger answers and saddened when the man tells him that pretty much everyone he knew in the building has moved on or died. Of course he wasn’t really looking for anyone but Maggie. It’s as if he knew he wouldn’t find her, and yet? The thing is, she has moved back to the building with her SON in tow (no husband) and is living in a different flat. The stranger in her old flat even tells Tony about the woman and her son living in the apartment at the end of the hall, but doesn’t mention names, so he leaves, never knowing she is so close. As for Maggie, would someone who had been so horribly treated by her wayward husband have a child with him? I don’t think so, and that is the saddest thing of all. I think she and Tony’s character were briefly, perhaps only that one time, lovers and her son is his. That they connected, but denied their love for whatever reason, is heartbreaking. This movie is worth several viewings, but make sure you keep a box of tissues handy…and, watch for the two scenes I mentioned. I don’t think I misread it. If I could give this film a higher rating than 10, I certainly would!
