YesAsia Editorial Description
The hyper thrilling police-bandit undercover story that was co-directed by Andrew Lau (Young and Dangerous, Storm riders) and Alan Mak ( A War Named Desire) uses the duel of opposing parties that try to outsmart each other as theme and does not draw on the traditional formula of flying stunts and big budget explosions; yet it succeeds in keeping everybody's eyes pinned to the screen from start to finish, even after continuous viewings!
The movies leading actors Andy Lau and Tony Leung can be seen in their probably strongest performances to date - one working as a mole in the police department, while the other works as undercover cop surrounded by deadly triad crooks. They are skillfully backed up by veteran Hong Kong film stars Eric Tsang and Anthony Wong that portray a cunning triad boss and a cool CIB police sergeant, respectively. Also featuring other Asian superstars including Sammi Cheng, Kelly Chen, Elva Hsiao, Edison Chen and Shawn Yue, Infernal Affairs offers viewers nail-biting suspense from the first minute to the last!

Director: Lau Wai Keung
MING (Andy Lau) is a mole in the police department. On the command of his Triad boss SAM (Eric Tsang), he became a cop when he was merely 18. After a decade of hard work, he has become a police sergeant in the Criminal Intelligence Bureau. With the help of Sam who tips him off with intelligence of his Triad rivals, Ming manages to earn kudos from his superiors. After passing a recent examination with flying colors, he has high hope of being promoted to probationary inspector.
YAN (Tony Leung) is a police mole in the Triads. Recruited before he even graduated from the police academy, he was initiated into the Triads as a teenaged underling. During his decade as an undercover, he has been convicted eight times of causing bodily harm to others, jailed twice, and sentenced to compulsory psychological counseling. As a Red Pole, or enforcer, his immediate boss is none other than Sam.
Leading parallel lives, Ming and Yan are feeling increasingly trapped in their false surroundings. Wobbling in the inferno between the living and the dead, they are desperate to find a way out. Ming would like to sever all ties with his illegal past and become a real cop. To do so would mean the elimination of Sam. Yan is sick and tired of chopping people up in the name of justice, and is striving to regain his real identity. Only one person can help him: SUPERINTENDENT WONG (Anthony Wong), the man who recruited him as an undercover.
Their curious paths finally cross each other one fateful evening. During a police attempt to topple Sam’s illegal operations, both sides realize there’s a mole amongst themselves. A series of cat-and-mouse chases ensue, as each side is competing to uncover their mole first. To make things even more chaotic, Ming is finally promoted to probationary inspector and is transferred to Internal Affairs. His first assignment is to uncover Sam’s mole in the police department...

Professional Review of "Infernal Affairs (US Version)"
This professional review refers to Infernal Affairs (3 VCDs Deluxe Edition) (Hong Kong Version)
|
Infernal Affairs was the box office champion in Hong Kong in 2002. Although it was unable to break the record of 2001's Shaolin Soccer, the response was still unanimously positive. Both the audience and the movie critics enjoyed this movie a lot. If you only watch one Hong Kong movie a year, Infernal Affairs is definitely the first choice! |

| The plot was great & it was easily understandable whether it was by predictablility or the effective story telling. Unfortunately you are left with knowing the audience had only a mere glimpse of the possible depth of the character themselves. Regardless, kudos to the powerhouse actors who portrayed & expressed their complexity effectively. This version allows you to view the alternate ending in the special features. There is the subtle & blatant difference that also deserves a head-nod. |

| Tony Leung, Andy Lau and Eric Tsang all are at the top of their game in this intricate, edge-of-your-seat tale of undercover cops and robbers. My only gripe is that the characters played by Kelly Chen, Sammi Cheung, and Elva Hsiao are given too little screen time; their characters are too thin to have any real life. They exist just to develop some of the backstory for the lead characters. However, this is a minor quibble. "Infernal Affairs" is a state-of-the-art thriller and I highly recommend it. |

| I enjoyed the whole film. Action filled. Andy Lau is really great. You should watch this. Even the younger Andy and younger Tony played their roles pretty well. You should watch out for the prequel. They are real great. |

| This movie is one of the best movies I have ever seen. Definitely not confusing...Just pay attention and you'll be fine. The american version will not replace it. It's not possible. It's too well thought out, and put together o be ruined. |
