Wonderful movie but don't get the alternate ending
| This is one of the best HK movie I have ever seen. I enjoy the complexity of the character and truly all 4 actors (Andy, Anthony, Eric and Tony) did a fantastic job. I was excited to get an alternate ending but was hugely disappointed by it. It doesn't make sense to me at all and of course with that ending, they can't have IA3. |

an interesting beginning to an end
| I was late in seeing this movie, having only watched it a couple of days ago, but it was so not what I expected. The writing was great, the acting was great, and there wasn't really much I had to complain about. I had expected a mediocre show that left me feeling nothing after I watched... this wasn't it. Since the beginning, I was thinking... cool, so they switch places (Andy Lau and Tony Leung), but it's so much more than that. Through their pseudo-characters, not only are they tortured by what they appear to be, but what they are hiding on the inside as well. They suffer doubly as a result, and this shows. Andy Lau's character exhibits coolness and intelligence while Tony Leung's character seems tortured and well, alone. He cannot get close to anyone, and can trust no-one but Anthony Wong. Speaking of whom, I admire much for his portrayal of the ever-loyal officer. It was the getting murdered scene that got me thinking, "Wow, now this is something special." The guys were excellent in their depictions of their characters-- every one of them. Tony Leung's character is especially haunting... I think because of his tragic death. Towards the end of the movie, I was left with a sense of loss for Tony's character and a little bit of wonder at how Andy Lau's character would turn out. All in all, it had left me feeling a whole lot, and that's more than I can say... it was just fabulous. |

WOW
| I've only seen the first one and will certainly watch the second one next week! It was amazing! The plot was very interesting and it got me hooked after the first 10 minutes of viewing! It did get a little confusing from time to time, but if you paid close attention to every aspect, you will surely understand, because most of the things were explained through the drama and not the talking. For a HK movie, this is definitely a hit. It's very worth watching, trust me! You'd love it so much, you'd be dying to watch the second part before you finish the first! And I heard that a third part is coming out soon too! I can't wait! :D |

It's about time
|
This movie was directed by Andrew Lau, who also did Hero (Jet Li, Tony Leung, Zhang Ziyi, Maggie Cheung). Both movies were released at the same time in HK, and Infernal Affairs received better revenues. While both were made up of all star casts, there's much more to appreciate in this film. The storyline and premise are well established, whereas cinematagraphy has excellent style and crispness. I compare this film to many of the well-known Michael Man films such as Heat and The Insider. Whereas Andy Lau and Tony Leung play cool, edgy characters, Anthony Wong is also a very likeable guy, unlike many of his previous roles. For another favorite Andrew Lau movie of mine, check out Sausalito (Leon Lai, Maggie Cheung). Stay away from Hero. |
