good Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
the storyline of this movie is really not bad. but andy lau's acting here is just so so. he doesn't allow the audience to sympathise with his plight. sammi cheng as his girlfriend is really bad. her role as a writer is supposed to add tension between her and andy lau but you will feel nothing. tony leung does much better as the troubled cop trying to get out of his hell hole. kelly chan as his psychologist is likeable and adds depth to tony leung's character. elva hsiao is just cute. very sweet girl. can't comment much on her acting though. overall, can catch the show for the plot, cinematography and tony leung's acting.

A Hollywood Standard Hong Kong Movie Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is what I call an excellent movie. Excellent cast and crew members; an excellent, well polished production; a great movie soundtrack and most importantly, what most Hong Kong films currently lack: an excellent script, worthing to be noticed even by the Hollywood movie executives. Hollywood are currently looking for fresh faces from the East, to be part of their major film industry in the West. The movie makers of this film (which also includes the actors) maybe the answer to their call. I was captivated by the movie from the very beginning to the very end. I really loved the English movie trailer for this movie, shown in Disc 2 - Avicinar Aka, the "Confidential Files" section. I believe the non-Chinese audiences will be captivated to watch this movie, if they are given the opportunity to watch this English movie trailer. This movie trailer SELLS. The two leading actors - Mr. Andy Lau Tak-wah and Mr. Tony Leung Chiu-wai; the two supporting actors - Mr. Anthony Wong Chau-sang and Mr. Eric Tsang Chi-wai; the guest actors - Miss Sammi Cheng Sau-man, Miss Kelly Chen Wai-lam and Miss Elva Hsiao Ya-xuan; plus the supporting cast have put on a breathtaking show worthing of true international recognition. It should be shown at international film circuits and to be shown at every cinema worldwide, so the people of the world can see what the quality Hong Kong cinema is truly made off and what it has to offer. Hong Kong cinema desperately needs to resurrect itself to its former glory that it enjoyed in the late 1970's and 1980's. If more Hong Kong films are made of the "Infernal Affairs" calibre, Hong Kong cinema will be saved from the irrelevance it's currently endures. This movie review is submitted on a rainy day, on Sunday, the 27th of April, the year 2003, 11:06 P.M. (Australian Eastern Standard Time)(which also happens to be my 26th birthday). Please enjoy this leading example of quality Hong Kong cinema.

thumbs up for Tony, Andy Lau the wrong guy for thi Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
The 5* rating is purely awarded to Tony Leung for his superb performance in this movie. Without question, he's by far one of the better, worth-remembering actors in recent years of HK cinematic history along with Chow Yun Fat and Leslie Cheung.
As for Andy Lau, i haven't seen any improvement in his acting or singing skills. His performance is still as stoic as ever. And he seems to be trying too hard to obtain the long-waited best actor award thru this role that he ends up giving the impression that he lacks passion. He's a wrong person for this role. Could have been better if portrayed my another Tony Leung or Leslie Cheung.

hmm..my opinion Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
well, is made really good but the plot wasnt'that good. it was sort of confusin'. also some part like in the beginng with the illegal 'drug' could have been found out, by testing the water,(i think i been watchin too much CSI shows) anyway, also it was kinda rushing at the end. and didn't like the ending,

Flaws in Directing, and could be much better. Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
Infernal Affairs undoubtedly has an excellent plot, a good idea. However, the directors seem to be incapable to unfold it into a classic thriller despite having such a crew of talents and good plot. It is a good film in the HK standard, as the movies industry being in its recession for years. Even so, it is not worth the acclaims as much as they are enjoying now. The directing seems to fail to capture the dark side and the contradiction in Tony Leung's character effectively, as less as Andy Lau’s character. The movie's pace could not say to be too fast, but it just saturated by boring and unexceptional sequences. For example there are absolutely no chemistry between the characters in the love lines. Equally, the inter & intra conflicts are not well portrayed in the main characters. The action sequences are very typical. The only star who steal the show may be Tony Leung. He is such a good actor that can mesmerize the audience without saying a word. It may be owing to his usual collaborations with Wong Kar-Wei. The ending of Eric Tseng's character is dull. Considering he is such a smart big shot described in the movie, he could never be so off-guarded to be caught by his undercover. The ending of the story is really a twist, but a total make-up one. Only one or two slight signs in the whole movie and the killer's character portray is totally untraceable. It gives an unsatisfied ending; of course it is unexpected. In short, the film is short of well narrative of characters' connection emotionally and mentally, it is also lack of more sophisticated tactic interactions. And the cinematography is poor, failed to capture the suspense and thrills of the story. A more precise plot and better narrative of the characters would amplify the intelligent and melodrama storyline, relative to the present intelligent-insulting and light-hearted thriller which only shined by the stars.
