　　已未年，數度自殺未遂的作家•柳美里（江角真紀子）因懷孕無法再輕生，但小孩的父親卻是有婦之夫。迷茫的她拜訪了感情深厚的前男友•東由加多（豐川悅司）。東雖身罹絕症，仍伸出援手。

　　「我無法想像妳獨自一人養育孩子的模樣。」「那是新生命誕生並養育的約定。」其後東病情惡化，赴美求醫。二人在紐約與東京，以傳真渡過每一天。隨著新年到來，美里即將臨盆，東也從美國歸來，但病情依舊。毛髮掉落，體重減輕，副作用也開始出現了……

　　When Miri Yu finds herself pregnant by a married man with no prospect of getting divorced, she turns to her former boyfriend Higashi Yutaka for solace and advice. But Miri discovers that he has an advanced cancer. The two lives in Miri's life begin heading in opposite directions, birth & death. But Higashi doesn't give up without a struggle. He tries all sorts of advanced medical treatmentin Tokyo and New York. Miri, meanwhile, decides to have the baby because his illness convinces her that she could not deny a life. Higashi in turn, fully aware that his illness is terminal, promises to try to stay alive as long as possible and to help her raise the child. "I witnessed my own rebirth...I have to live until your child can say my name." Higashi and Miri set about to fulfill his promise .....

A good movie, but it jumps around a little too much. The performances are very good, but after reading the real autobiographical novel, I noticed all the changes that just tried to make the story more dramatic (like the "mean" sister's attitude, when in real life she was very supportive). Also, I wish they mentioned that Yu Miri (and her family) are Korean and a little about who she is and her past. Unless you read her books, it's hard to understand what different characters refer to in her life.

The English subtitles are really bad on this disc (sometimes doesn't match what the character says or runs too fast), so I just eventually watched without.

The theme song "Wishing on the Same Star" by Namie Amuro really matches the theme of the song. Too bad they play a shortened version instead of the full version.
