同年9月，我西北人民解放軍全部殲滅青寧二馬，陶峙岳率國民黨駐新疆部隊和平起義，解放大軍挺進大西北。可是在國民黨的遙控指揮下，一股國民黨殘余勢力繼續潛伏南疆以圖東山再起反撲我軍，而我軍要在根本上解放新疆，必須徹底清除國民黨殘余勢力，在雙方激烈的交鋒中，代號“真神”的疆獨頭子逐漸浮出水面，國民黨殘部被徹底消滅，至此，我西北人民解放軍真正意義上解放了全新疆。
