Great!!
| The actors/actresses did a great job protraying their characters. I agree that some people misunderstood Mulan's character. She marries a husband so treats her very badly and she still stood by him in hopes to change him to be a better person. In the end, she succeeded. About pushing her brother to marry the cousin they did it in hopes of making the cousin happy so she can get over her sickness. As for pushing Mandy to remarry, Mulan didn't push Mandy in to it she only suggested it because she wants Mandy and her son to have a better future |

Upon reading the comments previously posted, I thought I might explain some things. In my opinion, many have misinterpreted Mulan (Zhao Wei) to be a weak character who cannot stand up for herself. This is not true. Mulan was merely upholding her family honor (I, coming from a Chinese backround). She also stayed in her marriage with SunYa because she believed in fate, and that fate had brought her to that point in life. Originally, she wanted to stay just until she saw SunYa transform into a responsible man (very kind of her), and then would leave for her true love, Lifu. However, she noticed that SunYa was working with all his heart to become a better husband; she did not want to let him down. I believe that this is not a form of weakness, but rather of strength, for it takes a lot to be able to stand firm and resist all the troubles she has been handed with such calmness. Mulan succeeded at the end; SunYa and her learned to love each other and remained harmonious in their sacred vow. Zhao does a spendlid job in portraying Yao Mulan. Her facial expressions and reactions are so realistic it is aweing. Her movements are natural unlike some actors and actresses. |

I like to compare this TV serial with "Romance in the Rain" both with Vicki Zhao as principal actress. I commented that "Romance in the Rain" was unrealistic and not reflective of Chinese society and traditions in the 1920's and 1930's, this one is very different and I might say absolutely and authentically Chinese during the same period. There were no mistakes and exaggerations and I love every moment of it. Unlike most Chinese films and novels making the good people happy victors at the end, this has a lot of sad outcomes and emotional people may shed tears. The only disappoinment is Vicki Zhao. In 'Romance in the Rain' she played a role with changes in character and personalities and sang a lot, here she just played a simple and honest woman with nothing spectecular and impressive. The person I like best is Hu Ke who played Niu Suyun beautifully with her attractive eyes and expressions. She is not very well known and I bet she has a great future |

Not Good.

I finished watching this drama, Moment in Peking, unsatisfied as a viewer. I am judging this drama based on the series itself and not on anything else. The most disappointing character is ironically the heroine in this story. Her character declines in value instead of rising. The turning point of her credibility was when she says she is divorcing Sun and yet stayed on to fit into a housewife mold to make everyone happy. She measures her success by waiting for and judging how much Sun has become a man. Yao Mulan, the heroine, was willing to clean and polish the waste left behind by Sun with a smile and a compliment, after how much he disrespected her as well as his own biological family. Sun did not develop into a man. After his lengthy affair and disgusting attitude, he saw Mulan as the maid to pick up the pieces, take care of his child given by his dead lover, and fix his problems with his parents. He may criticize prostitutes as damaged goods but he forgets he is one of them. Mulan was willing to forget how Sun disrespected her as a woman... as his wife, so that everyone will live in happy bliss. To top things off, Mulan and to an extent her biological family became just like the parents of Sun. They went to match the sick cousin up with her brother for a warding-off wedding. She pushes Lifu to marry in order to ease her guilt of betraying her words to him and pushes Mandy, a loyal wife to Ping, to remarry. In conclusion, Yao Mulan, did not learn anything of value as a woman. She is a total disappointment. |

I have to say that I was amazed by Vicki's acting in this drama! And I'm not only saying this because I'm her fan, I truly feel that Vicki's acting was superb! She really brought out the character 'Yao Mulan' to life! Even though I have not watched the old version, so I can't comment on who's portrayal of the character was better...however, it was reported that about 80% of the audiences prefered Vicki's version over Gigi Zhao's, that's the vast majority! So that certainly explains alot about Vicki's performance doesn't it? It was also this role that brought her the nomination for 'Best Actress' at this year's China awards...though she didn't win, but at least she was nominated! As for the drama itself, it was very deep, powerful, and as well as very meaningful.. Since I didn't watch the older version, I can't compare it to this one...however I've heard that they have changed many things around for the story in this new version, and some people have complained that this was not as deep and touching as the old one. However the old version seems like it is mainly for older audiences...people need to understand that Vicki is in the new version, she has fans of all ages, so the producers of this new version are trying to target audiences of all ages, so they can't make this drama too deep and complicated, otherwise it'll just be too difficult for the younger audiences to understand. And it seems like all the hard work has paid off, because this drama had very high ratings in the mainland, it even beat the very popular korean drama 'Jewel in the palace'! And this drama itself has also won numerous awards! So with this sort of results, how can you give this a pass? So I highly recommend this! So with this much |
