Great Drama, Many Tiny Flaws
| Journey to the West was very well - received; when I was young, I watched this. Now, I watched some episodes, not all, but boy, was it a wonderful experience! However, there were some flaws, including bad distance calculations... In episode 21, Monkey was like... "Save me from this Numerous - Eye Monster!" and the saving goddess threw a needle, dang! that far! and then Monkey said Thank You... How could she hear that? And some scenes were duplicates, used to show the Pig showing forward and backward when he was blown by the wind, grasping onto his rake, high in the sky. Call me a perfectionist, but I felt perturbed by some of these flaws and questions.Classics have great storylines, wonderful characters, excellent music, etc. Yes, Journey possessed all these. Not much magic? Understandable. Yang Jie, the director, said she wanted to blend Beijing Opera with modern computer techniques. Bad tech? dude, it was made in the 80s! Here I am, saying this and that. I do hope some who wrote previous reviews noticed some flaws, but I guess they're excusable... But aside all these, I have no complains. Classics are to be repeated but they live forever and never die out. I watched the dramas several times, but I loved it. I wanna buy the whole collection. Are all these episodes like connected together, no theme song to end, like a long, continuous movie? Cause some complained World Video screwed up the Three Kingdoms just by stuffing 6 and a half episodes on one VCD! Please reply back by writing a review. Thanks! |

Journey to the west
| This drama of Journey to the West is one of the most original version ever filmed. The acting of the actor who portrayed as the Monkey King was superb. I can say that no one in the existing world can bring out the inner personality of the character as much as he can. The recent Hong Kong version of Journey to the West cannot compare to the superior expertise of the actors of the original Mandarin version, especially the Monkey King himself. I know this because I have been watching the original version since I was three years old and I had never been bored since this fantasic drama series was made |

Very good!!
| The enthusiasm of the cast carries this series through any rough spots. The special effects are quite dated, and by today's standards, are pathetic, but in a strange way, this helps amplify the make-believe quality of the show. It's a wonderful story! |
