A dream collaboration between Jump magazine and Nintendo DS, Jump Superstars promises over 150 characters of superstar status from 27 different Japanese anime/manga titles. Getting this party started are characters from Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, Death Note, Hunter X Hunter, Yu Yu Hakusho, Billow Guest Sword Heart, and of course many, many more. The ensemble cast of 150 legendary characters will be separated into two groups: the Battle team and the Support team. Gameplay is in the tradition of Nintendo's popular Super Smash Bros. franchise, and multiplayer support is possible with via wireless wi-fi connection. The dual-screen and touch panel functionality of the DS system are used to enhance gameplay as well.

LOADS of characters!

I bought this game because I've watched a large number of animes and thought that it'd be cool if all these characters got pitted against each other. Indeed, the idea is really really cool, but I found the gameplay rather disappointing. You start-off with the most boring character: Luffy from one-piece, many more characters are quickly unlocked however. But, I've been playing this game for quite a while now but can't seem to unlock the better characters. The range of moves for each character is very limited in this game and some characters are obviously stronger than others. The biggest diappointment lies in the battle stages and music. The stages are all the same: consisting of a few platforms. There are no stages that replicate a location within an anime. The camera does not zoom in or out, therefore it is difficult to tell where your opponent is. The music are just simple tunes....no theme songs are present:( Get Bleach DS instead. |
