不登校を続ける中学3年生の川島大介は、両親に内緒で初めての一人旅に出る。ヒッチハイクで横浜から九州・屋久島の縄文杉を目指す旅だ。ところが旅の始まりは散々で、中年のドライバーから説教された大介は途中で降ろされてしまう。サービスエリアで途方に暮れる大介。やがて大型トラックの運転手と出会った彼は、大阪へと向かうが…。
夜間学校、養護学校、職業訓練校と様々な学校を舞台に、"教育の喜び"をテーマに人間の幸福を問い掛けてきた名匠・山田洋次監督が、教室の外を舞台に同じテーマで取り組んだ意欲作。今までの「学校シリーズ」と違い、主人公の先生は教職員やクラスメート、同僚ではなく、見ず知らずの他人という設定が新鮮。主題歌を若者に人気のフォーク・デュオ、ゆずが歌っている。

What a journey Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
Had the oppurtunity to watch this movie while visiting Singapore. Touching movie, especially the time during Daisuke was taking care of the old man. What a journey, beautiful scenery, interesting people Daisuke meets along the way. All that just to see a 7,000-year-old cedar tree... brilliant movie. I only hope they release the DVD with English subtitle version soon.

Such a good movie but sadly, it does not comes with English subtitles. What a shame. Can anyone from Yesasia.com advise when the version with English subtitles be release. I difinitely what one. Thanks.
