I completely disagree with the previous reviewer. I've never considered Joey to have outstanding vocals, well, I never considered her to even have decent vocals (learn to control your breathing Joey so you don't gasp for air every line), but her cover of "You Are Everything" is done well, mostly due to the arrangement, and I doubt she had anything to do with that.
Grasshopper, on the other hand, did an amazing job in covering Joey's songs - I really enjoyed their performances of "Don't Know Yet" and "Joyful Release". Their harmonies are excellent. Their new song, "We", is also one of the highlights for me on this disc.
Overall, decent, but not great. Song selection was average in terms of the Grasshopper's solo songs. Worth a listen or two, but this won't be something I play very often.Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

August 14, 2007 Oh boyIn terms of die hard fans, I'm one of them, but even I can't pull for Sammi on this one.
Her voice is absolutely horrid. Listen to "Mi", "Chotto" and "Ding Dong".... I can't stand to listen to it again.
The setlist is good, more career spanning than Sammi vs. Sammi. Her singing for Sammi vs Sammi was SO much better. If she had that singing, some of this setlist, plus some more songs, such as "Hurt", "Thanks to Him" and "Gray", this concert would rock.Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

In terms of song selection, the sheer volume of songs on the 2006 concert alone outweighs this concert.
With that being said, this performance is still nice. Songs are performed well, but the arrangements are too awkward for my liking. I don't know how to explain it, but the arrangement is what did it for me.
Not to mention on my VCD (which is from the original pressing, not sure if the newer pressings have fixed this) the concert is chopped up into individual tracks and each video (except for the medleys) fade in and fade out to black in between songs. This is insanely annoying, especially when watching a concert. The flow is gone. And a lot of the banter (I'm assuming anyways) is missing.
This release left me wanting more.

January 21, 2007 Shirley Lives OnThis concert is easily the best Canto-pop concert I have ever seen. This DVD was no disappointment. I still find myself watching it almost on a weekly basis. I just pop it in the DVD player while I'm cooking dinner or just lounging around the house. The cliche elements of all Hong Kong concerts is here - the "HELLO EVERYONE ON THE BALCONY" to the crying, to the special guests to the "Thanks to everyone for your love and support", to the audience hand shake songs to the planned encores. But, Shirley is one of those performers that is pure talent, and that is always showcased. The artists that Hong Kong has produced since her hiatus are pretty pathetic when compared to our diva, Shirley.
Although she is arguably one of the most talented Canto-pop singers of the late 1980's and 1990's, she has only graced the stage for a headlining concert twice, once in 1995 and now in 2006. This concert is absolutely amazing. No song is missed. From the classic karaoke singles that made her popular, such as 星空下的戀人, 難得有情人 and 叛逆漢子 to her more off-beat singles, such as 梵音 and 雲上舞, everything is here. I absolutely love 非愛不可 which was sung with 林一峰. An amazing twist to one of my favorite Shirley songs. Another favorite is 親愛的 but that should have been done without Eason, I would've enjoyed it better without his cheesy attempt at rapping. The "dance" medley of 逝去的傳奇, Dela, 午夜狂奔 is also amazing; the new arrangements really livened up the songs, especially with 午夜狂奔. Her planned encore of 明年今日�is also amazing - Shirley's spin on the song is absolutely stunning. Her vocals are haunting, absolutely beautiful, especially when compared to Miriam's version.
Overall, I truly adore this concert. Her banter with the audience does tend to get a bit annoying though, with her "Westernized" conversation. But it's really more about the music than anything. Amazing buy, a must in everyone's collection of concert DVD's. I just wish I would've been there to feel the energy inside the HK Coliseum. The arrangements are superb - 夢伴 sounds very good with the new arrangement. Her vocals are amazing. The costumes are well, I don't really care about that, so I wouldn't be able to tell you. All I know is that I love this concert.

I liked Miriam. Then I heard this concert.
It proved to me that she is talentless.
For example - listen to the huge breaths she takes in between lines - very noticable in "One Year from Today". Listent to Shirley Kwan sing it on her Being Shirley on Stage concert - flawless.
