Creepy Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Please do not watch Pulse, the American version of Kairo. Only watch it afterwards Kairo, and laugh, grimace or realise how much the has been cut, changed and poorly done.

Kairo is better seen with an understanding of the Japanese culture, the American did not have this clearly defined in Pulse and just generally made it less... enjoyable. One thing Pulse misinterpreted was the fact that the red tape didn't keep the ghosts out, but rather served as a warning to the living and kept the ghosts within a confined area.

The movie is creepy, has it's profound moments when you have to think, why would someone do that? But not in a silly way. The main theme of the movie is isolation, or really alienation within a society.

I've come to notice that someone has given each "good" review of this movie a "not helpful" rating, and surely this was some work of someone who didn't like this movie much. Have your own opinions, just don't ruin everyone elses reviews.

Suspensely horror Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Reason why I watch this is coz i love horror. The actors acted well. with atmospheric scenes. But the only prob is i think it's rather too long. 2hrs. I shall watch the american remake too.

Pulse!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I've finally watched Pulse. The remake of this. In fact, it isn't bad at all. I've rate it at 10/10. After watching the remake, I finally understand everything in the movie. I think the remake makes me understand much better. Now i also suggest them to make part 2. About how the two ppl who r still alive take back their city. There must be a way!!
It should be very interesting.

could be have better Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I think the ending could be have better. Harue and the guy in the ship could have gone somewhere else and met new ppl and there goes part 2. I suggest them to make Kairo 2.
I've not watched the american remake, Pulse. I went to a website and they said the remake has lame casts and lame story. As so, I don't think I wanna watch the remake.

Truly disturbing Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
If you're looking for mindless scares, buy something else. With Kairo (aka Pulse), master director Kiyoshi Kurosawa has crafted a horror film like any other. It's almost an insult to consider it just a "horror" film as it is a a truly disturbing story about loneliness and isolation and is the most deeply affecting thriller I've seen in recent memory.

As with other films of Kurosawa such as Cure and Seance, his concern is not on cheap scares. With perfect pacing and unparalleled shot composition, Kurosawa captures the contemporary, machine-mediated human experience better than any director working today. There are no real ghosts. We're the only ghosts in this world. After I watched this film, I felt more alone and afraid than at any other time in my life. Highly recommended!

Patience yields great rewards Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I found the U.S. version of this film in a rental shop (oddly retitled PULSE for American release). The clerk who often waits on me is an intelligent man and a perceptive critic of films, but he had tried three times to watch Kairo and had never made it to the finish. I discovered the reason for this phenomenon, which also affected me at first. I rarely award five stars to anything--I would not even give Citizen Kane more than four and a half--but Kairo is simply a great film, one which must be taken seriously as art, not merely as entertainment. Once the viewer puts aside any notion that the film is mere popcorn and gives his whole mind and heart to the experience, he will encounter subtleties and beauties rarely seen in this genre, at any time since and including the 1930's (a golden age of horror films in English).

Give this film a chance. Rent it first if necessary, but be patient. I find the film not only fascinating but profoundly moving, and the mysterious process affecting souls and bodies which is the central premise of the film (no spoilers here) says so much about the spirit of our age.

A little long and drawn out Customer Review Rated Bad 1 - 1 out of 10
All I know is that this movie is long and drawn out about 2hrs. Though it has its creepy moments. The story overall kind of left me at a loss like that other movie Charisma. The story did not explain why these dead people wanted help. If it did, I totally missed it. The theme is about death and lonelyness. Go figure. -T18-E.L.
