It's like that shirt...

Do you know that shirt stuck way in the back of your closet, that shirt that you never wear? It is a perfectly good shirt in some sense; heck, some people would probably like it. But you think it is unfashionable or the wrong color or an ugly pattern ... and so it hangs there for month after month, unworn and unloved. That's how I feel about this CD. It's not that the songs are bad or the singing is terrible. It's just that it all seems kind of run-of-the-mill. None of the songs are particularly memorable, the singing is adequate but not distinctive, and most of the arrangements seem a bit old-fashioned. My favorite tracks are "Kaleid Earth", "Dear My Friend", and "True Name", but none of them remain in my mind for more than a minute after they have ended. Now this CD will sit on my shelf for months, unheard and unloved. I suspect that other listeners may enjoy it. However, to me, it seems like Yonekura Chihiro didn't aim very high with this project and, consequently, she ended up with something forgettable. |
