King Drummer (Hong Kong Version) VCD

While the Shaw Brothers earned a reputation for romance fiction and period swordplay films in the 1960s, they also created some high quality contemporary-set dramas during the period, especially in the youth genre. In 1967, they invited Japanese director Inoue Umetsugu to make Hong Kong Nocturne and King Drummer, both turned out refreshing at the time. King Drummer stars the talented Ling Yun and the beautiful Lily Ho as a drummer and the band manageress respectively. The story starts with Sun (Ling Yun) being hired as the replacement to a popular drummer of a band. He hopes to become famous and thus agrees to help music magazine editor Lee to date the band manageress, Jane, and keeps his love for Jane to himself. While Sun successfully becomes the city's top drummer, he finds it agonistic to keep his promise of not seeing Jane again... With a young and gorgeous cast and the dynamic music, the film was considered quite an alternative title in the 1960s.

井上梅次導演的代表作之一，船員孫志強(凌雲 飾)機緣巧合成為「火花大樂隊」的鼓手，他因急於成名，竟然答應幫助音樂雜誌出版人李源明(魏平澳 飾)接近樂隊經理黃麗真(何莉莉 飾)，以換取源明的力捧。終於，志強得償所願，一炮而紅，但源明卻逼他實踐諾言，與麗真斷絕來往。志強受到極大打擊，唯有忍痛離開樂隊與麗真……

Spotting talent wherever it exists, Shaw Brothers offered King Drummer as a showcase for the talented Ling Yun. He plays the replacement hired for a popular band whose egotistic drummer quit to join a rival group. When the new arrival becomes a hit, he earns the jealous wrath of the predecessor. Meanwhile, the young drummer's mother is fervently against his music career. With the gorgeous Lily Ho as the manageress of the band and some terrific drumming set pieces, the whole thing, needless to say, comes off with a bang.
