Korean Film Director Biography - Hong Sang Soo (English Text)

Every year the Korean Film Council selects three to six acclaimed local directors and releases biographies of them as a part of their "Korean Film Director Series". This year the focus falls on Park Chan Wook in this 168-page English-language biography written by Korean film critic Huh Moon Yung.

Award-winning director Hong Sang Soo stirred up much controversy when his debut feature film The Day A Pig Fell Into The Well (1996) bluntly challenged the censorship ratings with its liberal use of profane language, much to the astonishment of the Korean film industry. The eclectic director has since been at the helm of such quintessential films as The Power of Kangwon Province and Virgin Stripped Bare By Her Bachelors. This biography includes comments by renowned film critic David Bordwell and French filmmaker Claire Danis.
