Angela Mao at her best
| If you can own only one Angela Mao film, "Lady Whirlwind" is the one to buy. Angela dazzles with her lightning quick moves in this film, as she kicks and punches her way through dozens of cheap thugs (including Sammo Hung, who gets thoroughly pummeled by Angela not once, not twice, but three times). Angela also shows off some amazing gambling skills; could someone please show me how she does that??? Chang Yi proves to be a quick student, learning an entirely new style of fighting in just a few hours of torturous training. The plot, such as it is, involves an assortment of people seeking revenge for various grievances and some nasty criminals who want to force Chang Yi to smuggle for them. However, the plot is beside the point. "Lady Whirlwind" is all about the fights and it serves up an almost ceaseless string of them. The image quality of this DVD transfer ranges from mediocre to crummy, but don't worry -- you can see all of Angela's spectacular moves just fine. Highly recommended for all martial arts movie fans. |
