YesAsia Editorial Description

1997 Taiwan television series Legend of Yung Ching is a showcase of dazzling star power and engrossing historical drama. Headlining the production is Hong Kong wuxia drama hero Adam Cheng, who gives a multi-layered portrayal of Emperor Yongzheng (also romanized as Yung Ching) from his youthful days as a prince to his midlife years on the throne of the Manchurian Chinese Empire. Cheng is surrounded by an equally breathtaking cast including Shaw Brothers villain Chan Hung Lit as Emperor Kangxi, action queen Jade Leung, hunky movie star Mark Cheng, Tiffany Liu, Howie Huang, and Mainland actor Huang Haibing.

Produced by Chou Ling Kang (Xi Shuo Qian Long) and Ju Jueliang (Huo Yuan Jia), the epic saga comes in two parts to tell a riveting tale of royal intrigues and civilian rebellion during the heyday of Qing Dynasty. Part I follows the struggle for the crown between Kangxi's fourth son (Adam Cheng) and 14th son (Huang Yingxun). Part II details Yongzheng's rise to absolute power, and his love-hate relationship with female assassin Lu Si-niang (Jade Leung), whose entire clan was ordered death by him.

One of Adam's best series Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Out of all the Yung Ching series I've seen so far, this one has fulfilled my questions about Yung Ching emperor. He wasn't really bad afterall. Adam is so freaking charming and handsome when he puts on the costume hehe. His moustache looks odd in the second part but overall he's so fineee.

It is the best Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This series is better than another YungChing series made in China. It includes many history contents only when you take your time to watch it slowly. Many conversation and poems have their history background.
It even talks 2 major parts in Yung Ching's life time, one is respecting Confucius and another is how is the buddhism affecting on him.
Many people even not Adam Cheng's fans are saying this is the best series. It is fun to watch it and also can learn many history story there only if you pay more attention and have more idea on basic chinese history.

Not bad, but not the best Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
I gave this series a try mainly because of the topic, and was a little skeptical in seeing Adam playing the lead role. The series move along in a slow pace, and only picks up at the end of the first part. I was not used to the heavy makeup used...but Adam Cheng has his usual charm though not necessarily fitting for this role. The focus is different from the previous Yung Ching stories that I've seen. I enjoyed watching it at times, but this is not something you would watch for a second time, unless you're an fan of Mr. Cheng's.

Excellent!!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is definitely a must see series. Historical, emotional, romantic and interesting. Good acting of Adam Cheng as an emperor who is rather ruthless. However inspite of his power it seems that he is very much humanized and at times are a very emotionally fragile person especially in his love for the girl he loves. Have been waiting for this series to come out. Two thumbs up
