Leon Dawn (Mandarin Album)

~ Leon Lai

Leon Lai, once tapped as one of the "Four Great Heavenly Kings", has recently made a comeback with his long-awaited Cantonese album Dawn . The famous all-rounded star has just released another Mandarin version of the album named Leon Dawn, with Mandarin versions of all the songs in Dawn and some other Canto big hits such as The Fireworks Of Two People (Track#10), the theme song of movie Leaving Me Loving You .

The Mandarin versions of those Canto big hits are nice but the present reviewer, after all, prefers the original Cantonese version as the use of words and the story the lyrics present are much better. Unfortunately, there is not much improvement in Leon's vocal. However, his performance is indeed even more passionate than before.

Most of the songs, such as Wound (Track#4), Break Up Impassively (Track#3), Slow Motion (Track#7) and Happy Lover (Track#9), in the album are catchy quality ballads and Leon does deliver as he is particularly good at this genre of songs. The Fireworks Of Two People (Track#10), the theme song of a movie, is ear-appealing with music and lyrics perfectly matching the theme and feel of the blockbuster.

One to One (Track#5), the theme song of a commercial, is poppy, rhythmic and catchy but what the song talks about is nothing new. As for the others, Leon takes on the role of a lyricist in What (Track#1) and the Cantonese song Will Cry And Smile (Track#11). Both are worthy of sparing your time listening to. On the other hand, Over The Troubled Water (Track#6) and Billboard (Track#8) are definitely outclassed by the others in the album.

Recommendations: Wound (Track#4), Break Up Impassively (Track#3), The Fireworks Of Two People (Track#10) and Will Cry And Smile (Track#11)

great album! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is a very good album which is a treat to everyone especially his fans. The mandarin songs are very likable and showcase Leon's talents, his soft and nice ballads are proof he is still at the top of the chinese music industry. An album that had high expectations and delivered with flying colours.

Also check out his cantonese version of LEON DAWN!
