Life Line Express (VCD) (Hong Kong Version)

YesAsia Editorial Description

1980s Hong Kong cinema was inundated with supernatural screwball comedies, and 1985's Lifeline Express is one of the genre's most representative and enjoyable efforts. All the telltale motifs are present - characters that are likeable in spite of their seriously flawed personalities, loads of none-too-subtle humor, and a substantial amount of lecherous but always harmless skirt-chasing. What the movie doesn't have are any big-name actors or directorial auteurs to sell it, which has regrettably condemned Lifeline Express to cinematic obscurity. As a solid example of a uniquely Hong Kong genre of filmmaking, however, they don't come much better than this.

Dimwitted but goodhearted Fatty (Kent Cheng, Porky from the Once Upon a Time in China series) always looks out for his no-account brother Tiger (1960s pop singer Teddy Robin), who spends his days unsuccessfully trying to pick up women. After one of Tiger's romantic misadventures results in his being hit by a passing vehicle, Fatty pledges half of his own vital energy to Buddha in exchange for Tiger's life. His prayers are seemingly answered, but a series of dire omens soon makes it clear that Fatty's own days are numbered. The two brothers embark on a mystical quest to restore Fatty's lost lifeforce - and to score with a pair of hot young nurses, while they're at it!

For the bond of brotherhood, Fat Moose (Ken Cheng) is willing to pledge half of his possessions to save the life of his younger brother, Tiger (Teddy Robin). His sacrifice to a deity in Thailand revived Tiger from a coma. After Tiger's recovery, the brothers are having great fun courting two nurses (Yam Hei Po & Poon Kam Yee). Then, Fat Moose begins to notice that most his things are diminishing. He seeks advice from Prophet Kwan (Ting Fung). He gets away from many disasters. However, after hearing the fatal message, he has to be hospitalized again for choking. Tiger consults a master of Metaphysics, Professor Ho (Ko Hung) who reckons the most effective way is to reinstate Fat Moose's willpower to live. Ho requests the brothers to act as instructed to participate in a rite to expel the deity's agent.
