為徹底消滅中國工農紅軍，蔣介石遂又親自部署了第五次圍剿。在時任中共中央主要負責人的博古和共產國際派來的軍事顧問李德的錯誤領導下，紅軍遭受巨大損失。面對中央蘇區逐漸縮小的危局，中央紅軍決定突圍轉移，踏上了歷時兩年，途經十一個省共二五千里的長征。
1934年10月，紅軍從於都出發，及後四渡赤水、巧渡金沙江，突破了強大敵軍的重圍，飛奪瀘定橋、過大渡河、翻雪山過草地……於1936年10月，三大主力紅軍終於勝利會師，完成了長征的壯舉、從此，紅軍肩負起抗日戰爭，解放戰爭的偉大歷史使命，奠定建立新中國的基石！
