YesAsia Editorial Description

Gorgeous Jenny Wu is magnificent in Love Without End, a 1970 remake of the 1961 black & white film of the same title, which starred earlier Shaw Brothers screen queen Lam Doi! Ching Ching (Jenny Wu) is a backwards country girl who becomes a popular singer after getting shoved on the stage by the drunken Nam (Ling Yun). Ching Ching and Nam eventually become lovers, but a series of tragedies and harrowing incidents plague them. Can love be reaffirmed before tragedy tears apart all they've built together? The original Love Without End is widely considered a defining weepie of the Shaw Brothers era, and while this 1970 version of Love Without End may not have earned the same status, it largely compensates with fabulous color photography and the presence of Jenny Wu, whose photogenic sensuality and dynamite screen presence make her a worthy successor to the late Lam Doi.

A rare case of a remake that approaches the heights of its classic predecessor, the Shawscope color Love Without End is as touching as the black-and-white original. Jenny Hu is a worthy successor to the late movie queen Linda Lin Dai in the role of a village girl who becomes a nightclub singer and finds true love, only to have it all threatened by fatal illness.

Break out the hankies! Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
This version of "Love Without End" is a good remake of the original classic Lin Dai film. I was a bit surprised at how close this is to the original; the filmmakers didn't change much of anything other than the actors (and the decor ... love those groovy 1970 era interiors!).

While Jenny can't match the nuanced performance delivered by Lin Dai in the original, she and the rest of the cast do a fine job and, gosh, Jenny looks fabulous in all of those miniskirts. I recommend that film buffs check out both the original and this one. Both of them are worth your time and money.

Romantic and Beautiful Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
The best of Jenny Wu is here. The begin of the show is very romantic and the end is rather touching with beautiful theme song. A MUST-SEE for romantic, love-story movie-goers.Highly recommended.

Lavish remake Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Jenny Hu deserves some kind of award for being brave enough to tackle the role previously played by Lin Dai. After all the legendary actress had picked up a Best Actress award for it and the title song had becomea bona fide hit all over South East Asia. Well I must say she did a good job as I did not think of Lin Dai at all while watching this lavish remake. Jenny Hu was very natural in her acting and she is ably supported by Ling Yun as her lover and Essie Lin Chia as her best friend. I must admit I did not like the black and white Lin Dai movie but here, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The songs sound even better with Tsin Ting singing them but it is kind of strange that Tsin Ting sings for both Jenny and Essie in the nightclub sequences. As for the title song, producer Mona Fong must have decided to sing it herself as it is suddenly her voice that Jenny Hu lipsynchs
to. This is somewhat jarring and inconsistent with all the other songs sung by the sweetvoiced Tsin Ting. The famous song from Blue And Black is also here and Mona Fong again wrests the song from Tsin Ting. Granted she has a lovely deep voice but Mona cannot suddenly sing for an actress in the movie when someone else has been singing for her all along. This is the only flaw in an otherwise perfect movie.

Glamorous leads wasted in lavish remake Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
In an attempt to duplicate the success of Lin Dai's
black and white "Love Without End", Shaw studio gambled on the premise that lightning WILL strike twice if they keep the successful elements (good looking leads, same hit songs and more..etc)but tweak
the questionable plot points, the result was not such
a cathartic experience as expected. Jenny Hu look and act as good as the original star, same with Ling Yun.
But lets face it, once you know the outcome of this hokey melodrama, being moved by it would be rather
difficult. All is not lost if you like the songs, this
time there are even more of them and watching Jenny's
parade of colorful costumes can be enjoyable too to some extent.
