A magical variation on the normal romantic melodrama, The Magic Touch of Fate is a collaboration between idols from Taiwan and Korea. While this is the first time Korean singer Kang Ta has appeared in a Chinese TV series, Alec Su and Ruby Lin are frequent partners from TV dramas like Princess Returning Pearl and Romance in the Rain. The cast alone is already reason enough to watch The Magic Touch of Fate!

A famous magician, also the founder of Clover Magic Club, has a daughter (Ruby Lin) and an apprentice (Kang Ta) who fall in love with each other. One day a restaurant waiter (Alec Su) accidentally messes up their greatest magic show and almost ruins their whole business. Out of guilt, this waiter decides to learn magic at the Club, but it seems that he is not entirely welcome...

I'm sorry to say this drama was very poorly done, with the wrong story, the wrong supporter actor and actress, and the wrong romances. The story was surprisingly interesting in the beginning, and then it just seemed to drag forever. Alec and ruby's relationship never seemed to reached their so claimed "love." Their relationship does not even end as hoped, although ok. The reason i give it five stars is because there were parts i thought would make it a good drama, and yet parts that seemed to be written by a child.

After watching Bratty Princess starring Alec Su and Zhang Na Ra, I was totally impressed! I love the acting, not just the main characters, the screenplay, and the story line. I was especially impressed with the role of Alec Su, skillfully playing a very intelligent, confident and genuine young king. What a great show!

Thus to see more of his recent work, I purchased this show. What a BIG mistake! The dialog is very poorly written. Over-usage of Chinese proverbs makes the movie seem overly pretentious and unbelievable. Other than Ruby Lin, other female actresses, especially the main female villain and Alec's mother in the series, over-act too many scenes, making the show seem somewhat ridiculous.

Alec and Ruby did their best, but there is very little that can be achieved with this group of supporting cast and the script they had to work with.

This is the first time I've seen Kangta in an acting role. I think he did a well enough job in making his character believable. Though, I can't appreciate the metro-sexual look of him - a bit too feminine for a leading male role.

Storyline is pretty unbelievable as well. ***SPOILER ALERT*** I don't understand how a mother, who supposedly love her daughter, chose to abandon a little girl, while leaving her husband with her two sons! The ending seems rushed and sloppy too. How could Ruby's character not show any remorse over the death of her friend and ex-boyfriend? Were he not the one who found her when she was all alone??

The poor writing style, the dialog, the storyline, and the acting are GUARANTEED to disappoint! Don't waste your money and, more importantly, your time with this one.

I genuinely hope Alec and Ruby, both excellent actors, would be more selective with which show they do and which screenwriters to work with in the future...

i liked this film very much,the storyline was very interesting. Too bad about the ending, if this serie have another ending, I love this series more.

Alec and Ruby's acting was superb! I highly recommend this!

I haven't watch this yet. I'm going to buy it, only because I love KangTa so much. Although I'm more eager to buy KangTa's Korean TV series (Love Holic). As a everlasting fan of KangTa, I'm going to collect everything he cast in ....Way to go KangTa KangTa..

impression of Magic Touch of Fate: My personal feelings for the series The plot of the story should be considered drama, and it’s definitely not just a plain idol series. The theme of the story (the last scene) indicates that magic is not just mere magic. It brings hope and dreams to all, a motivation for one to achieve them, bringing the unrealistic deeds to reality just like what magic does. Excluding that, the ending brought forth of that family love, which is one of the most precious and joyful affections a person can attain. It surpasses the external love between a man and a woman, instead it penetrates and blends into an ethereal love, difficult to describe in plain words. The story line is not complex, yet it involves plentiful emotions from the actors and actresses. Maybe the scriptwriter and director are both Korean, you can immediately feel the simplicity of Korean drama that interweaves with powerful sensation to tug the hearts of the audience. The first five episodes basically described everyone’s current relations; it served as an intro to the plot. From 5-10, the plot gradually transforms to lead into a train of events that would follow. The characters’ relationships with each other also slowly twist away from the beginning. The last ten episodes reveal the secret behind the “strange fate.” Particularly in the last two episodes, I was taken aback by some sentimental scenes and couldn’t withhold my sympathy for the two main roles. Aside from the plot, surrounding ornaments led into the mood of the story, such as music, costume, settings, and cinematography. The lyrics of the two songs sang by Alec and Kangta both fit very well with the plot. Both relate somewhat to how can all this be true, and why do we have to be fated in this certain? The tempo was slow, gradually leading to the chorus. The melody is somewhat dull, yet passive, flowing along with the plot. In costume wise, Jing Xiu and and Piao Yu La were definitely more fashionable than the tacky Jun An and Xiao Mei. In one perspective, the screenwriters kept it this way to show you the opposite ends of people’s personality, with Jun An and Xiao Mei being the pure, traditional, and hardworking kind, while Jing Xiu and Yu La as the sophisticated and urbane kind. It made the series more realistic looking. The plot’s setting was not clearly mentioned or indicated. It wants the audience to think of the plot as a fictional story, and not a specified script or TV series! In addition, the director spent time in picking out places to film the series. In many scenes, the background is filled with color, either the blue-tinges ocean or the green-lush lawn and greens. In other times, there will be parts that occur in the cosmopolitan city environment and professional fashion settings. Now I know why the news once reported that the Korean production team used two and half months in finding suitable settings. Lastly, cinematography was not bad, neither was it really laudable. The screen is clear and the images are radiant, yet the art of capturing different occasions simultaneously was not worthy, only because scenes jumped back and forth a lot. If you don’t follow along, it’s quite confusing at times to catch up on a complete act. Lastly, I want to talk about the acting of the main roles. Piao Yu La, the antagonist of the plot, is a spiteful person filled with ruthless artifice. She envied others’ love and possessions. Her only goal was to ruin the lives of others, in return, to become fulfilled and satisfied. Niu Meng Meng wasn’t that talented when I first saw her in Taji Prodigy three years ago, yet this time she did well for a novice. She brought forth the atrocious Yu La, however at times her acting was very exaggerated. For example, her repeated facial expression for the line “What did you say? Really?” was quite dull after a few times watching. Overall, she was fine. Next, Jin Xiu is a modern, fashionable, and handsome young man who can be considered
