Inspired by Japan's decision to adopt a jury-trial court system in 2009, the Fuji TV drama Majo Saiban (a.k.a. The Witch Trial) spins a thrilling and unpredictable suspense around the jurors of a murder case who become the targets of different parties with a stake in the outcome of the trial. Johnny's idol Ikuta Toma (Maou) plays laidback freeter Toru, who gets called to serve on the jury for a heavily publicized court case dubbed "The Witch Trial" by the media.

The defendant is Kashiwagi Kyoko (Ishida Yuriko, Barefoot Gen), who is accused of murdering her rich elderly husband. Initially apathetic about jury duty, Toru becomes increasingly invested in the trial when he realizes a mysterious group is trying to manipulate the court by blackmailing him and the other jurors. Refusing to back down, Toru resolves to protect his reporter girlfriend Higa Manami (Code Blue) and fellow juror Izumi (Kato Ai, Dream Again) from harm, and to get to the truth behind the case.

2009年4月からフジテレビ系列で放送された、近未来クライム・サスペンス。とある殺人事件を軸に、"裁判員制度"のスタートによって実際に起こり得るかもしれないストーリーを、謎とスリルに満ちた心理サスペンスドラマとして描いていく。主演は、ドラマのみならず舞台でも活躍し、演技には定評のある生田斗真。主題歌をデビュー20周年を迎える福山雅治が担当したことでも話題になった。

フリーターの吉岡徹は、遺産金をめぐる殺人事件の裁判員に選ばれた。容疑者は、周囲から"魔女"と呼ばれている柏木鏡子。鏡子が無罪を訴えるなか、裁判員たちの周囲で奇妙な出来事が次々と起こり、やがて裁判員の票が有罪から無罪へ翻りはじめる。裁判員の1人である主婦・渡部いずみも、娘のことで脅迫されるようになり…。
