Popular popstars Andy Hui and Gigi Leung co-star in Marooned, a light romantic thriller set in Macau. Andy Hui is a normally level-headed cop who does one thing wrong and watches his life spiral out of control. On an illegal gambling bust, he discovers that one of the perps is his cousin, who begs to be let go. He arrests him anyway, but keeps $3 million in cash to be returned to the cousin's boss, in effect saving his cousin's life. The cop attempts to return the money to the triad boss, but things go wrong, and soon both the cop and his longtime girlfriend (cute Gigi Leung) are on the run. They only have three days to produce the cash, or their lives are forfeit. Can they beat the odds - and both the cops and the triads? Andy Hui and Gigi Leung provide requisite popstar presence and fine romantic chemistry in director Lo Kim Wah's light thriller, but the real star of the film is Macau. The unique architecture of the former Portuguese colony is the perfect backdrop for the light thrills, winning romance, and breezy charms of Marooned.
