Professional Review of "MARS & ROSES (Japan Version)"

Misia's "Mars & Roses": Hip-hop, Rock, Next Station is R&B "Mars & Roses", the fifth major album of Misia the acclaimed singer/songwriter in Japan, presents 13 very own creations of this solid Japanese diva while 5 of them are joint product efforts with Keith Crouch. Misia takes it real easy on "In My Soul". With simple words and melodies, Misia really sings her soul out including her contribution in the chorus on this harmonic smooth tune. With Misia in the house, snappy tunes serve as an outlet for emotions from the bottom of her heart. "Sunshine" is one good example. Telling how important a loved one is to her life, Misia sings with complete control of her sentiment conveying a positive go-ahead kind of perspective. An amazing voice would even sound better with a sophisticated recording. "Interlude~When Misia Was 7~" exemplifies such a perfect combination with multiple sound effects, which seems to take you on a journey from one amplifier to another. After her third hip-hop album "MARVELOUS" and the fourth rock work" KISS IN THE SKY", Misia never gets tired to try something new and this time the fifth album features her American type R & B attempt "Snow Song". While you are surprised by her multi-faceted musical talents, the bonus live version of "Snow Song" gives you even something more to be amazed at. The flawless playing and Misia's live rendition may make you wonder how on earth it is possible to be an edited performance. This album also presents you Erykah Badu's tailor-made track for Misia "Akai Inochi (Red Life)" (Track 11). Misia's vocal delight plus Erykah Badu's English monolog, what more can you ask for? Tracks Recommended: "In My Soul", "Sunshine" & "Iinterlude~When Misia was 7~" Reviewed by doll doll (Hong Kong) Translated by Holly (Hong Kong) |

I heard of the album and ordered it. I wouldn't say it's the best MISIA's album... However when you listen to this new album, you can see that MISIA is trying to bring new gerne into her music... which is "Soul". In this album you can't really find any of the MISIA's explosive vocal skills, but the album became more comfortable and relaxing. Like all Soul albums, this album is addictive. I heard that it's not selling as much as last few albums of hers, but who cares? I can see that her music style has matured from this album. |
