Nominated for Best Drama Film at the 31st Golden Harvest Awards, the Taiwan short film Melancholy Forest marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Wang Ming Hsia (Fleeing by Night). It is also the first time that renowned filmmaker Hsu Li Kong (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) produced a short film, which received rave reviews in Portugal's Festoria International Film Festival and Canada's Montreal International Film Festival. Starring Kao Ying Hsuan (Lust, Caution) and Wu Yi Ting (Do Over), Melancholy Forest is set in a distant, post-apocalyptic future, when natural plants are on the brink of extinction. A man living in an enclosed, artificial city makes a surprising move in order to bring back the green world he remembers from his childhood.

有感於人類為追求科技進步，卻忽略隨之而來的污染所導致的環境破壞，令人憂心不久的未來，自然生態是否即將滅絕？那時的人類，會懷念大自然嗎？即便窮盡所有文明科技，能否換回一片森林，或一株原生蔬菜？是在這樣的感慨下，創作了這部影片，盼望能喚起人們對自然的珍惜與愛護。
