YesAsia Editorial Description

Chang Cheh (1923-2002) has made more than 100 films in his filming career which spans over 40 years. Establishing a unique aesthetics of violence and masculinity in Hong Kong action cinema, Chang has also groomed a generation of action stars like Ti Lung, Jimmy Wang, and Alexander Fu. In Men from the Monastery (1974), Chang appoints two of his greatest actors, Chan Kuan Tai and Alexander Fu, to star as the legendary kung fu heroes Hung Hei Koon and Fong Sai Yuk, two characters that were later portrayed by Jet Li in the 1990s in The New Legend of Shaolin and Fong Sai Yuk. Secular disciples of the Shaolin Temple who are loyal to the dying Ming Dynasty, Hung and Fong face persecution from another martial arts school that is helping the Manchurians conquer the Ming court. The situation leaves them no choice but to fight for their lives...

Men from the Monastery now comes with a trailer, photo gallery, biographies of director and cast, plus more.

導演:張徹
Director: Chang Cheh

Shaolin firebrands Fang Shih-yu, Hung His-kuan, and Hu Huei-chien are as famous in Asia as the Three Musketeers are in America and Europe. So when the “godfather of the kung-fu film,” Chang Cheh decided to tell their stories with Alexander Fu Sheng, Chen Kuan-tai, and Chi Kuan-chi in the roles, it was cause for celebration. The resulting film is one of the most lauded and beloved in the director’s filmography, and remains a highlight in all the stars’ careers.

Nice prequel to Heroes two Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
This movie is a prequel to Heroes two. To me, Heroes two is a bit better cause of the story. The action is good but lack a bit of emotions. There is three heroes in this film and each one has not enough time to develop his character. But overall, a good kung fu flix for 1974.
