This customer review refers to Osamu Tezuka's Metropolis
Simply wonderful Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This film was based upon Tezuka's graphic novel by the same name from 1949. Tezuka was greatly influenced by Walt Disney's work as well as the increasingly industrialized and hostile environment of the Cold War. To those who were confused by the film, they need only use their imagination a little more and/or read the graphic novel.

I personally am fond of Tezuka's style. Rintaro the director chose to emulate Tezuka's unique style and merge it with CGed buildings and structures. The animation and details are simply wonderous. You'll journey into a world beyond your imagination.

Most directors wouldn't be able to pull this off but the 2D animation and computer elements form a symbiotic relationship in the film. As an animator I find this an interesting choice but it seems to work well for its purpose. It gives a feeling of turmoil, corruption, and general discord - yet compassion and hope still thrive in Metropolis.

The music was fantastic featuring some good oldskool jazz. It definitely sets the retro mood for the film and nicely complimented Tezuka's "retro" style characters.

Bottom line:
If you enjoyed Katsuhiro Otamo's Akira (writer), you will enjoy this film. Furthermore, if you are looking for an intelligent film with a good plot that is light years beyond capturing monsters or questing endlessly after sacred objects, I highly recommend adding this to your collection!

If you're enamored by purely 3D films like Shrek or Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and dismiss all 2D animation and older animated works, you probably will not enjoy it as much but I still highly recommend it nonetheless. It's important to appreciate many different things!

This customer review refers to Osamu Tezuka's Metropolis (DVD) (Hong Kong Version)
excellent plot, use your heart to read the hidden Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
i don't agree that the plot is week. think about the story is written in 60s, when the world is under massive transformation in economy, in culture, in technology. the story reveals the weakened relations between humans as people don't trust each other during the cold war era. political and social segregation between the capitalist and communist ideologies drove people nuts. when i watched this movie last year in a small cinema, i was so thrilled because it made me keep thinking about george orwell's brave new world. "peace" is THE message from tezuka osamu.

hmm.. Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
i haven't seen the movie since i first bought it which was about year ago. though is good but not the plot, i mean it was created in the 50s i think, so it was weird when building collapsin with jazzy love music playing to it. also kinda sad. but if u liked the astro/atom boy stuff which the creator is the same creator who did this movie.
