Missing is a romantic mystery revolving around a team of divers exploring real life Asian Atlantis, Yonaguni, a sunken city lying between Taiwan and Japan discovered in 1986.
Guo Dong is an archaeologist who is mesmerized by the beauty and legend of Yonaguni. He vowed that when he found his future partner, he would bring her to this island and propose to her using an engagement ring which he hid earlier. Through his sister, Siu Kai (Isabella Leong), he got to know psychiatrist, Go Jing (Angelica Lee) and they fall in love. Acting according to his plan, he brought Go Jing to Yonaguni and together they dived into the sea to search for the engagement ring. However, tragedy struck and Guo Dong disappeared underwater. The search workers found a headless body but DNA testing were unable to confirm whether the body was Guo Dong.
Go Jing who was unable to accept this sudden change of events and the disappearance of Guo Dong slipped into a daze. In order to investigate deeper as to what happened underwater, she engaged the help of one of her patients, Simon (Chang Chen). Through his help, she saw things which she were not suppose to know --- and strange events started occurring to her, she start to feel things that other people could not. Were these strange events real or just hallucinations, a frightened Go Jing was not sure either. Hence, Go Jing went to get psychiatric help from Edward (Tony Leung Ka Fai). Just when things seem to get better, Go Jing received news that Guo Dong's head was found.
The head was actually found by Siu Kai, who dived into the sea once again. In addition, she also found a video tape which showed that Go Jing had a part to play in the disappearance of her brother. This cause Siu Kai to face immense stress and pain. The re-appearance of Guo Dong's head cause Go Jing to want to find out deeper as to what happen that fateful day. As if led by an unseen force, she went back to Yonaguni in search of the truth.

| Well contrary to the first reviewee, i love seven swords, but film is not like a Tsui Hark for me. It jumped me, yes but the storyline is the usual chinese which i have seen thousand of times. But what the heck, its still Tsui Hark so go buy your copy. |

| Following the excruciatingly awful "Seven Swords", "Missing" can be said to be an improvement for formerly reliable director Tsui Hark, but that is damning with very faint praise. The first 45 minutes of this film simply are tedious. After that, "Missing" becomes more interesting, but much too manipulative to be taken seriously. Blame Tsui Hark the scriptwriter for sabotaging the striking images served up by Tsui Hark the director. Recommended only for those who can't resist Lee Sinje's doe-eyed charms. |
