Monkey Kung Fu VCD

Not to be confused with Lau Ka Leung's popular film Mad Monkey Kung Fu which was released the same year, this similarly titled 1979 martial arts extravaganza features future action director extraordinaire Ching Siu Tung in a starring role! Also known by the alternative title Stroke of Death, the John Luo Ma-directed project centers on Wei Chun (Ching Siu Tung) a cocky young man sentenced to serious jail time for killing a man in a fight. Sadly, getting thrown into prison doesn't do much to change the young lad's bad attitude. But one fateful day, Wei Chun picks a fight with a seemingly defenseless old man, but the elder prisoner shows the young upstart who's boss by giving him a sound thrashing! It turns out that the old man is the master of monkey style kung fu, and after befriending Wei Chun, he decides to pass on some of his skills to the boy in secret.

Things take a dramatic turn on the day of the old man's execution. Realizing his time is finally up, the elder statesman gives Wei Chun his most precious keepsake: one half of a medallion that, when combined with its other half, is said to lead to a hidden treasure of some kind. Later on, a new prisoner (Hou Zhao Sheng) arrives, and due to various circumstances, both he and Wei Chun finds themselves battling the guards and escaping from jail! But even though the two men decide to part ways, they find fate drawing them back together time and time again. The two become fast friends, as they constantly have to do battle with folks looking to wrest the prized half-medallion from Wei Chun's hands. But is everything as it seems?
