YesAsia Editorial Description

Can you imagine swordsmen from period martial arts films appearing in a modern-set comedy? Cecilia Cheung now makes this possible by switching between a martial artist and an elegant office lady in My Kung Fu Sweetheart, a Wong Jing movie as amusing as any he has created. The well-known kung fu couple, Yuen Wah and Yuen Qiu, from Kung Fu Hustle, play her parents who hide their true identities as kung fu masters while secretly combating evil in contemporary China. Leo Ku is Dragon, our kung fu princess's boss who has seen her practicing kung fu when she is not supposed to. Together this quartet offers a hilarious crossover of martial arts films and comedies, filled with parodies of famous titles and swordplay novels to amuse movie fans from start to finish!

Phoebe (Cecilia Cheung) is born into a kung fu family, and her parents (Yuen Wah and Yuen Qiu) are martial arts masters no different from those in the ancient world - they even dress in ancient swordsmen's costumes when conducting their secret missions. Phoebe's boss, Dragon (Leo Ku), witnesses a massacre at a business party and thus becomes the next target for assassination. Phoebe wants to protect him, and so enlists the help of her unusual pet, a huge condor just like the legendary one from the famous Return of the Condor Heroes. She also needs help from her divorced parents - her mother, who is a stock market speculator and her dad a public toilet attendant. How will they combat White Eyebrows and help Dragon to tide through this crisis?

Phoebe (Cecilia Cheung) is the daughter of two Kung Fu masters (Yuen Qiu & Yuen Wah) and started learning martial arts from the Kung Fu Academy on top of the Cloud Mountain since a teenager. Phoebe's parents are divorced and Phoebe soon graduates to be a Kung Fu expert herself but she has to keep her martial arts skills a secret. Phoebe falls in love with Dragon (Leo Ku) at her work place, but Dragon is suspicious of Phoebe's Kung Fu skills...

So-so Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
I am not sure how Cecilia Cheung got her powers. It's a comedy movie. That couple from kung-fu madjong really suits well together in every film. I wonder if they really are a couple. I don't recommend it.

so-so movie Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
i just finished watching this movie..i didn't enjoy it that much

the storyline was quite stupid and ridiculous...even though this movie was again trying to be creative and taking things out of reality..but i think it was too much..a 1000 year old hawk flying around a city of 2006?...kinda stupid to me

i dun really recommed this to everyone..unless your probably fans of cecilia and leo...otherwsie to me it's a waste of time

Pretty Good Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
I think it is pretty good movie. I like some stuff they did. I thought the story sounded really good, but the movie to me was less than what I expected to happen.

The hawk character I think was kind of used too much. I think he could be used less so that they could explain different parts of the movie more.

I wanted them to play more into the whole riverly with the two girls, when they were young and when they were order, but it didn't happen.

I think at the end it was not very realistic for the Leo to learn all that kung fu in one or two days, than he goes and fight with the other three to fight the main boss. How could Leo be that good at kung fu that fast? That really not possiable. It took the Cecilia 6 or 7 years to learn kung fu and become that good. It is believeable that she and her parents can learn kung fu moves in 2 days and be the boss. But not Leo; his character can not learn that fast and fight that good so fast!

So that's why I thought this movie was a just pretty good. If they made some changes it could be a a great moive, but for now it just a pretty good movie.

It's NO kung fu mahjong.... Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
"My Kung Fu Sweetheart", It's just ok, not the best comedy kung fu type movie. "Kung Fu Mahjong" was much better. Yuen Wah and Yuen Qiu makes the movie. Leo Ku and Cecilia Cheung were not that great. I like the song that they sung together for the movie though. The Hawk character was a bit too silly for me. Overall, I would recommend this movie, especially if you're a Cecilia or Leo fan.

Comedy with a very nice storyline Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I like it very much. A comedy with a meaningful and nice storyline. Leo gave a very great performance in this movie....playing a CEO who unfortunately became a target of a master Kungfu...Leo, very cute and very funny sometimes, along with Cecilia, Yuen Wah, Yuen Qiu, Sammy and Wong Jing have made this movie quite interesting. It's very worthy to watch.
