少年紅軍王瑞一家四口全都參加了長片，湘江之戰的慘烈炮火奪取了他父親的生命，王瑞被毛澤東救起。戰爭給王瑞內心留下了創傷，但他依然堅信著父親和連長說過的話，跟著走！
跟著走的王瑞隨著紅軍的勝利轉折，從痛苦和陰影中更加堅強勇敢起來，但他又在紅軍過彝區、強液壓大渡河中失去了自己的姐姐、姐夫和最敬重的連長。苦難與艱險磨厲著少年的心。然而一直關心他的毛澤東卻用自己長輩般的慈愛和堅定博大的胸懷，撫慰和激勵王瑞，使他在炮火硝煙中真正成長了起來。
七十年後王瑞老人重走長徵故地，舉世無雙的長徵之路再次使老人陷入回憶……
The four peole in Wang rui's family all took part in the Long March, Wand Rui's father died in a very severe battle in Xiang Jiang, while Wang Rui was survived by Mao Zedong. THe war hurt Wang in the heart, but he still belive what his father and his head said, go with the army!
Wang grew up in the pain, and became more and more bravery. When the war turn into a good situation for the Red army, he has been a strang young man. however, he lost his sister, and his brother-in-low, as well as his respectful header when acrossed the Yi area, and the battle in the Dadu River. Although suffering a great sorrow, the young man has braced up in the artillery fire, beacuse Mao Zedong always took a good care of him, and encouraged him to go ahead.
After 70s later, when the old man called Wang Rui came back to see the road that he had been walked on in the Long March, he failed into memory again.
