My Place (Japan Version)

YesAsia Editorial Description

This is the first full album from Imai Eriko, formerly of SPEED. All of her singles to date have shown a heavy rock influence, and it's safe to say that this album is a continuation of this trend. Eriko's vocals gain even more power than before to keep up with the hard and heavy instrumentation.

Good work, (but plenty of room for improvement)! Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Eriko seems to be coming of late. Her singles and even her debut album 'My Place' are released many paces slower than Hiro and Takako. She has been one of the lead singers during SPEED days and the relatively slow progress in her solo career may seem to be an underestimation of her true potential. 'My Place' is long-awaited. It contains some of Eriko's commendable works such as 'Red Beat of my Life', 'In the name of love' and 'Identity'. There's an increasingly inclination towards rock influence in Eriko's music. Plenty of the tracks in 'My Place' are very upbeat and funky. Eriko's steady and loud vocals seem to complement with the heavy instrumentation of these songs. The overall effect is really good. However, there doesn't seem to be significant improvement in Eriko's vocal range after many listens. It seems that she sounds almost the same as when she's part of SPEED. It's just a continuation of her music style from SPEED into her solo career. In addition, due to the fact that the producer for 'My Place'-Hiromasa, is the same guy in charge of SPEED works, 'My Place' appears to be under the influence of SPEED. The same old formula, the same old style. However, Eriko is making an effort to be different through her efforts at penning lyrics. The first song 'Dawn' is actually written by her. This is a beautiful touch to her overall performance in 'My Place'. In general, 'My Place' is good with a lineup of quality music but there's really plenty of room for improvement. Eriko needs to be rid of the conventions that Hiromasa sets for her. Only then can her true potential be sparked off immensely. 'Identity' is a classic example of how she excels under the hands of a different writer.

I agree Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
While I have yet to hear the new songs off of the album, I have spent many hours listening to the singles. I think a lot of her singles are good, but I think with Identity, Hiromasa finally found a niche for Eriko. Eri doesn't have the range that Hiro has, Eri's strength lies in her performance and attitude. Identity definitely had attitude. It's always been said that one day Eri wanted to sing and write her own songs, and if she has done that with at least one track on this album, I am proud of her and support her as a Speed fan and as a fan of all of the girls individually.

..Imai Eriko...... ^^ Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Well , Just came back from her FC live...wow, yes..I am giving My Place 8 base on just the 5 new songs .....I was kinda of shock when the finalised track list came out , with 9 out of 14 tracks being songs/c/w from her 5 singles...but Eriko's surperb perofrmance and the quality of the 5 new tracks..just make up for that shortcoming.....DAWN...the opening song...(also happens to be the song that was recommended).....Lyrics was pen by Eriko...I like this song.....listen to it carefully..those who are familar with Hiromasa's style would have notice immediatly that this song is unconventional..Time Out.....this song took a few rotations before it starts growing on me...the distortions are cool IMHO....Darlin' another attempt on the lyrics by Erichan..(and hiromasa)..I like this song...its very cheerful and bright..suits eriko very much.....the 2 surprise of the album are aozora (Blue Sky) and Himawari (Sun Flower).....I shall not say too much...Well Eriko mentioned that her favorite track in My Place is Himawari! ...About inclusion of Free Soul and Find Myself, these songs are hand pick by Erichan too....^^ ..The remix version of Tsumetakushinaide -Transpacific Radio mix- is a nice touch too..gives new life to the song......on the whole I enjoyed this album...its gonna be on my heavy rotation for a long time...I got to mention that when I thought hiromasa san is running out of steam, this album rekindled my hopes in his abilities to compose good music.....and of course..erichan's excellent performance makes up for it too...... Just my 2 cents
