relax and enjoy the show

ok this movie is diffrent than others. it's type of slow, relax, massage, natural, tradetion, happiness, monks and the beautful thailand. i like the camera movement in this movie and the light. all ctors are very natur like they are living there. the only one thing not to rate this movie 10/10 is mmmmmmmmmmm i feel there is something missing in the story. we should know what heppen to the japanese girl is that dream is for real or for just nothing and where she will go in her new life is she will stay in thailand or she will go back to japan as a strong person!! sorry for my bad english. |

Extreme Dissappointment

Since i really enjoyed "The Mourning Forest" I was quite anxious to see this film. How it turned out would have been more acceptable if it was the director's first film, but as a followup to the wonderful "The Mourning Forest" this shows a casual disregard to form/plot and a pretentious display of receiving praise too quickly as a director. "Nanayomachi" is basically about an attractive Japanese woman in Thailand whom hangs out with a gay annoying French guy and some nice Thai people to just chill out and learn massage. The lead actress looks damn fine in her tank top, but in this role there is no indication of her acting skills, as she and all the rest of the cast cannot communicate with each other due to the language barriers (Japanese, Thai, French). The viewer has no idea why the women is in Thailand, and more importantly why she and the complete strangers she meets bother to/decide to hang out like a family. It makes for a warm, fuzzy "we all can get along despite our different languages/Thai people are oh, so generous" vibe,..but that is only for the film. There is nothing realistically convincing about their relations and how they act. They are many scenes that just are so forced and try to show acting, but come across as very amateurish, like one where everyone is fighting and screaming because the Thai woman's child is missing at some point. Very unconvincing. I would much rather watch a documentary about Thailand because the film is shot beautifully. As a "film" with a plot, purpose, conflicts, etc.....it is a complete and utter embarrassment. Like I said, she looks good in that tank top and she can cry on cue....but that's about it. It's good to try to catch people in a natural light and just focus on interaction, but the director needs to show the minimum amount of discipline to keep viewers engaged. |
