YesAsia Editorial Description

Vicky Fung started her music career as a songwriter and lyricist. The first song she published in 1996 was the melodious "Cannot Let Go" which immediately became Sammi Cheng's chart-topping song after release. Since then she has written numerous wonderful songs for many Hong Kong idols, such as Kelly Chan's "The Best Place", Edison Chen's "The Sky over Bad Kids", and Gigi Leung's "Cover Girl" among other enchanting tunes.

Now she finally publishes her debut album Never Home with all 12 tracks composed and lyrics written by herself! The last track "Kidding" is the demo version of Kelly Chan's "The Best Place". Now sung in Vicky's own voice, you will find it a familiar yet refreshing track. Other tracks will also provide with you a kind of homely comfort that will make you feel relaxed. Bring the CD home to enjoy Vicky's marvelous music!

The second version, packaged in a newly designed cover, comes with the bonus track "Secret Meeting" for Vicky's fans!

Highly Passionate Artist Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
This album is a must for music lovers of emotive songs and lyrics.

Vicky's music and singing demonstrates her lifetime passion. Her unique voice touches my heart. She is one of only few Canto Pop singers that truly sing with emotions. This album needs to be listen to from beginging to end to fully appreicate it.

Can't wait for next album! Just hope its a little longer and has more tracks.

One of the most under-rated newcomers Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Vicky Fung composed her first works for Sammi Cheng's "Can't Let Go" (Fong Butt Day) and Sammi Cheng's "Worries" (Sum Si) in 1996. I love both songs, and now Vicky released her debut album in 2005 that is creative, interesting and breathes new life into Hong Kong pop music where needed, but unfortunately she's one of the most under-rated newcomers of 2005, probably due to that there's no photos of her anywhere in this (both the first and second version of this) album. She slowly got public's attention by performing for Green Coffee (with Lam Yat-fung) and Hong Kong Music City (a performance space in one of many, many Hong Kong shopping centres). Probably in her next album, we may see photos of her, but I managed to see her on T.V. once (TVBJ in Sydney) and she's looks like a woman in her 30's, with permed slight curly hair. I love every song track and music-only tracks in this album. Anyway, I truly wish her good luck in this cut-throat Hong Kong pop music industry.

This is OK... Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Well, I had high hopes for this CD based on the reviews written here for the 1st Edition...but maybe they were too high. First, the packing is not really up to par. It's a DVD case with a CD and a tiny no-frills lyric booklet along with 5 tiny cards of miscellaneous stuff (a group of women, some pots and pans, clouds...). It's rather bulky for so little contents. BUT, on to the music. Overall, her voice and style of singing reminds me a bit of A-Sun (who I actually think is better...), but her actual songs are quite unique, probably because she wrote them herself. Here is my review of the actual music song by song: "Waiting"- an unneccessary introduction that could easily be done without. "Scent"- this is a ballad with an overall nice beat that is OK lyrically. "In the Dark"- a lovely piece of accepella singing...makes a nice break in the CD. "Flying Chess"- this has some marvelously wonderful piano, but her voice never quite seems to "catch-up" or get into total tune with the music. It's still an OK song, but you keep waiting for her to "match" the music with her voice and it never happens. "Still in the Dark"- is a continuation of the accepella break in music and is really nice and pleasant. It's also amazing how well she sings with absolutely no music. Very talentend. "Massage"- Gorgeous guitar on this song and her vocals are strong and commanding. The most perfect song on the entire CD for me! "My Place or Yours"- very odd beats, but it's OK because it's different. A bit hard to get into though. "Rendezvous"- the most up-tempo song on the CD, but it also has an odd beat and sounds very caberet in style (which I don't really care for). "Control Myself"- this is a peaceful and relaxing ballad that I found to be very nice and probably my 2nd favorite song on the CD. "Am I Still in the Dark"- is yet another accepella continuation and is still lovely in it's rare simplicity. "Grateful"- the music reminds me a bit of what you hear piped over the speakers at Busch Gardens, but her vocals are very excellent on this song. It's alright, but not standout. "Kidding" is sheer perfection! The piano and the vocals are both magnificent and in harmony and I just adore this song. I think it has to tie for #1 as my favorite on the CD! "Rendezvous"- the second version is better in my opinion, although the odd beat and rthymn is still there and makes for an unusual arrangement. I can see why this artist isn't enormously popular, but for novelty value, she's fun and does have nice vocals. I think if her music was more mainstream she'd really get more deserved notice. I keep comparing her to A-Sun in my mind because of the almost crying tone of their voices...but the music is totally different. So, if you want to try something you might enjoy (but not play everyday)...this is a nice change of pace. I rated it rather high (an 8 out of 10) because I didn't want to hold the flimsy packaging against the artist. Her ability is there. I would have rated it a solid 10 out of 10 if not for some strange arrangements here and there. Still...a nice piece of music for my collection and an artist to keep an eye out for in the future!

Very Good Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
With a design of an envelope (and having to open it like an envelope was a nice surprise), this singer surprises us with good singing and chic music. Unfortunately not a photo of her anywhere in the album. Most of us have to guess what she looks like. Anyway, more songwriter-singers like her will raise the profile of Hong Kong pop in this place and world-wide. Cheers to Vicky!

Talents Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Her songs are very smooth and sweet just like her voice, it is a pity that not many people are taking notice of her. Unlike the other new singer Kay Tse, she does not put strain in her voice in order to pull high notes, she sings soft comforting melodies that leaves listeners in a daze
