YesAsia Editorial Description
The most anticipated costume drama on television, this is an adaptation of the martial arts novel by acclaimed writer Wun Ruian. Ni Shui Han stars Hong Kong actors Julian Cheung and Zhong Han Liang, and the production travels as far as Yinchuan Desert and Wuxi to capture the natural beauty of China. Julian Cheung, who is familiar playing a hero, plays Qi Shao Shang, a hero on the run, while Zhong plays the arch villain.
Ni Shui Han is a legendary sword in the Xiang Wu world, but no one has actually seen it. Qi, while travelling, rescued a fighter chased by assassins, and before the fighter died, he gave his sword to Qi. The sword, soon Qi discovered, is Ni Shui Han. Once the sword is drawn, Qi found a letter hidden in it, and it tells of a treason plot against the country...

Visually Appealing, Realistic Characters
|
The visual styling of this feature utilizes a new style of cinematography previously unseen in a wuxia tv series. Scenes are depicted in shades of blue; perhaps as a dramatic attempt to underscore the bleak circumstances that surround the main characters. The desert scenery thrives under this type of effort, since what previously might have been bland shades of desert sand are now beautiful hues of blues and gray; this radical departure allows the director to better delineate other aspects of the set, since any other colors are now in clear striking contrast to the lush but stark background. The fight scenes are wonderfully scripted (no slack cgi) and buoyed by the kaleidoscopic scenery, simply look fantastic in this setting. Rather than a TV series, it simply looks like a multidisc movie, and each episode is 1:30 minutes long, with "play movie" as the title of the selection. The only main complaint is that some of the early parts of the storyline seem repetitive, with similar circumstances unfolding in various locales for most of the first 6 discs. This causes the dramatic aspects of the first half to be quite tedious. I also wish there had been more fighting throughout, but this might have been due to the tedium of watching the characters interact in semi-infinite loops. What leads me to ultimately appreciate the series were the three dimensional and realistic characters, that as time passed, began to make rational decisions. Their backgrounds are also well prepared and interlock in a nice tapestry. In conclusion, I do recommend this title for fans of this genre, but be aware that that it will may take a while to enjoy the story arc. *Thus far, all of the PAL dvds are playable on my regular NTSC television and dvd player* |

This is clearly an advancement and what the production seems to have been constructed around. Rather than a TV series, it simply looks like a multidisc movie, and each episode is 1:30 minutes long, with "play movie" as the title of the selection. This is wuxia fighting at its best, and can partially be attributed to the lack of slack cgi effects. Hi, I would like to find out whether the fighting is the old type of fighting or the matrix style kind where there is slow motion and then fast again. I kind of prefer the old type of fighting style where you can really see the strokes they use Pls feedback |

Ni Shui Han
| It's an addicting serie. The serie moves at a good pace. The sceneries are truely spectacular! I am a big fan of sword fights, and this serie is action pack. The romances between all charaters are interesting... Once you start the serie, you'll probably stayup all night watching it. If you like lots of actions and some romance, then this serie is for you! I believe that this is the best serie I have seen this year... |
