copyright infringement Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
I bought his first CD and he completely copied one of brian mcknight's song and said that he wrote it himself. Come on Justin Lo, give credit where credit it due. I mean the arrangement was almost identical too. The song is "superstar". I'm all for using american R&B as inspiration, but not copying it note for note. You know what though, I would still buy his new album.

Peace Out

Solid effort, but...... Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
This is a solid effort from Justin Lo, but I don't really like Cantopop artists or their music companies doing second and possibly multiple (3 or even 4) versions of their first original CD with a few add extras like a new song or two, or two or more MV's added in the front of the audio music tracks. It really bugs me very much. EEG are the worst culprits, especially with Twins. Absolute shockers. Now Gold Label is joining multiple CD/CD + VCD/CD + DVD/CD + poster/CD + photo album versions, etc. bandwagon...... A waste of resources and a despicable effort to earn your hard earnt money. Evil. But back to the album. Overall, I prefer his self titled debut album to this, because in his first album, at least there were famous songs like "A Good Person, "Erica", "Hard Life" (Mang Ngang), "I'm Here Today" (Ngor Yau Gum Yaat), and "White X'Mas". The only consolation for buying this album is that it contains MV's with songs from his previous album. Well, it's now up to me and you to weigh on whether this purchase is worth it or not before buying it.

First time buying Justin album Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
i reckon this is a better deal, luckly i didn't bought the first edition before, i knew this album would re-release another version. I have to say i agree with people that this isn't the best album from justin because there is some boring songs, but the thing i gave this cd 8 points is because it came with the K DVD which i was waiting for, and now it has a bonus 2 new songs, so its great. But otherwise i love the 2nd track, Volar and u'll shine again. the rest i need to re listen because at first it didn't caught my attention while i liestened to it.

pulled it off again Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
Justin Justin Justin~ what more can i say? this guy has potential~ its all based on his music~ it shows! He doesn't have to put special gifts or DVD/MV what so ever to accompany his album because its not necessary. People who buy this album cares for his music, not small gifts.

... Customer Review Rated Bad 1 - 1 out of 10
On this album i would have to agree with outkast because it thought it wasn't that great. When i first listened to it the intro and 2nd song was great but the rest would just be not good. The other song i only liked was 'you'll shine again'. Volar i particularly didn't like and the rest were all the same kind and boring. Just saying i personally didn't enjoy this album.

Great Album with Positive Message Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
You’ll Shine Again; What can I say more about this song? I already love the Cantonese version (track 2 of “Justin” album) so much, and he’s even better singing this English version. Justin has showcased his range, his powerful vocal and his ad-lib in this song. Even though I prefer the original arrangement to this piano-only arrangement, I love the English lyrics more. “I see the light, see a rainbow, see the beauty that’s within you…. You’ll shine again.” Yup, Justin write the lyrics himself.
Dream Away; This is another English song, but with three lines in Cantonese. First time Justin writing Cantonese lyrics? In fact, this is more like an outro or a demo, taking into account the length of the song. With only guitar accompaniment, it’s like a lullaby Justin sings for you before you sleep. It’s so sweet! Oh and I love the way he sings the words “close your eyes”.

There will sure be fans to feel disappointed of the lack of R&B songs. Indeed, I love his “Erica” and “Superstar” so much. But look, there’s no R&B but we get to hear so many more new elements in this album. Moreover he has never labelled himself as an R&B singer, however good he is in that genre. He’s more into pop and soul.

It’s such a pleasure to listen to Justin’s song with a earphone, because I can listen to the background vocals clearly. All the vocals are done by Justin himself. Another thing is that unlike some other Hong Kongers who have lived in a foreign county, Justin pronounces Cantonese very well.

After listening to the whole album, I find that the songs have gone much more positive compared to his previous songs such as “Hoe Yan”, “Ngo But See Hoe Yan”, “Erica” etc. Will it be suitable to say that “Justin” album describes his past while “No Protection” describes his present?

Recommended tracks: 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12

quite good Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
i like justin to begin with..his voice is magnificent..and the songs are good too..after hearing his 2nd debut..i wasn't totally disappointed..but a bit suprised too..i haven't really thought that justin would take that big chance in his music trend..well..for the songs "battle the rich boy", volar and "dream girl"..these songs were a 360 change from his usual slow songs..some comments have been made on his new songs as to be copying other singers..i admit..volar and "battle the rich boy" does sound like a bit of akon's lonely..black eyed peas' my humps and usher's yeah!..but i think it's the way how the music is made..and how it's shaped that made it sound similar..justin/mark lui worked hard together composing these songs..it's not their usual songs that they composed..i think it's a good start for both of them..with a bit more creativity and experience..their next songs would be a great hit..onto justin's slow songs..and it matches quite nicely in cd..most of them does have a karaoke feel..but w/justin's singing ability...it's really hard to sing as close to what he can do in the cd..so i think the slow songs are great..hope justin keeps up his good work..looking forward to his next cd

Disappointing followup to promising debut Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
First a disclaimer, I'm not a Justin hater. Just read my review of his first album. But "No Protection" is disappointing. In Western music, artists usually take at least two years between albums. But here we have a singer-songwriter taking only 3 months in between albums. Even by H.K.'s outrageous standards, this a total rush job. To Gold Label: This is NOT the way to develop the creative talents of your most promising artist. I guess they would care less for music quality, all they have are dollar signs in their eyes. But I digress, back to the music...
The good news is that Justin still has his great voice, and has some creative moments in this album (eg. Track 2). The bad news is that there are even MORE ballads in album numero two. They all sound so bloody similar (ie. sappy piano intro, boring melody), if it weren't for Justin's singing, these songs are generic Cantopop fodder belonging in the catalogue of someone like...Alex Fong. I dont know who is to blame: Justin, his record company, or the H.K. music market, for its distaste for pretty much anything other than generic "K-songs".
But that's not even the most dissappointing thing about this album. That honor belongs to Track 6 - "Volar". This songs rips off the exact drum sample of "My Humps" by the Black Eyed Peas, the "yeah" exclamations from Usher's hit "Yeah", and the arrangement/composition of Usher's "Red Light". Listen to those tracks and be the judge... Again, I don't know if Justin, or his producer, Mark "I am way past my prime" Lui is to blame, but this seriously undermines his artistic integrity. Somebody should feel ashamed for themselves.
I'm no longer a believer, Justin's got to make major changes to win me back as a fan.

good Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
I have listened to this album a few times now, and really feel that it's a pretty solid album. I think, like the others, I had really high expectations from Justin and therefore was disappointed with some of the songs here, especially "Volar". But really, this album is quite good. It's hard to expect Justin to change so quickly- this is only half a year sincethan his last album, and Justin has only released two albums so far- give him some time.

Not his best work... Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
Justin's first album was tremendously well polished and had a superb aray of ballads, acoustic, and r&b numbers. I was able to listen to the entire album, and repeated several of the songs like "good person", "superstar" and "I have today". In his 2nd efforts, No Protection, he fails to deliver the catchy beats from the first album. He tries different genres, and tries to add hip hop, and more dancable songs, but the songs like "volar" and the title track just aren't catchy or likable. The ballad tracks all sound the same, very slow, mainly piano, nothing special. The english tracks on this album are also not great, somewhat boring. There is not a single song I wanted to repeat, and the entire album wasn't very polished. Of course, he didn't have much time for this album. Listen to his first album, skip this album, the only good tracks are 1, 6, and 9. And even when they are good, they are really just average. If you understand cantonese, the lyrics are good, and you may like the songs more. But if you don't understand cantonese, you won't enjoy the album. Overall, good experimental album. I hope his 3rd album will be better, and have more catchy melodies as his first. He is still one of the better canto-pop singers.
