Helmed by writer-director Kimizuka Ryoichi (The Suspect: Muroi Shinji), Nobody to Watch Over Me reveals the emotional toll a murder case takes on the family of the perpetrator. The guilt-by-association stigma experienced by relatives of the accused is a topic previously covered in Shono Jiro's Tegami, but Nobody to Watch Over Me takes it further by also exploring the role a sensationalist media plays, and what happens when news coverage turns into persecution. Acclaimed actor Sato Koichi (The Magic Hour) plays the lonely cop assigned to watch over the suspect's sister, played by teen actress Shida Mirai who has established herself as one of Japan's brightest young actresses through TV dramas like The 14 Year Old Mother and Tantei Gakuen Q. The film's impressive cast includes Matsuda Ryuhei, Sasaki Kuranosuke, Ishida Yuriko, Kimura Yoshino, Tsuda Kanji, Sano Shiro, and Yanagiba Toshiro.

Fifteen-year-old Saori's (Shida Mirai) life falls apart when her older brother is arrested for the murder of two children. The media quickly descend on Saori's family, and the angry mob soon follow as the sensational case turns into national news. Worried about their safety, the police arrange new homes and names for Saori and her family to protect them from the media circus. World-weary detective Katsura (Sato Koichi) ends up becoming the temporary guardian for Saori, a job that he spurns initially. But he soon sees how much the case and media coverage has affected the emotionally traumatized teenager, and how far the tabloids reach.

A 18-year-old youth was caught by the police, because of the suspicion of killing two little girl. Then the ordinary life of his family had been totally disintegrated, as they are “the family of the children-killer". They immediately became the number one tracking target. Police officer Katsuura was assigned to protect an important witnesses Saori, who is the younger sister of the suspect.

Due to the strong play up of the media, the whole society became more furious over the incident. In the name of justice, people actively disclose the privacy of Saori through Internet.
