Flash Point (DVD+Poster) (Limited Edition) (Hong Kong Version)
October 29, 2007 intelligent actionThis film is set before SPL. The theme and plot are very standard, but with interesting new ideas. The bad guys are very bad, but human too. The pace, fighting, stunts and camera work make the standard plot exciting again. The fact the bad guys are so vicious makes you happy when they are killed, and their business ended. The fighting is complicated, but it feels totally realistic. The extras DVD is superb and a must view for all Hong Kong cinema fans. Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

Louis Ko is used by the mainland as a device to monitor and control what happens in HK. The film is very realistic, not romantic at all. It details what people in the Triad do, to keep power. The extras disc is superb, Johnnie To talks about the reason for the political statement in the Film. Also Lam Suet and Lam Ga Tung make excellent interviews. Did you find this review helpful? Exiled (Hong Kong Version)
February 14, 2007 Tense cowboy standoffWo is in Macau with his wife in exile from his former triad gang. 4 members of the gang are dispatched there to kill him. However the members have a big link with Wo and grew up together. This is all taking place at the handover of Macau in 98. They arrive in Macau, and enter the house and botch up the hit. Boss Fay gets angry. Wo says his family and baby need money, so convinces the others to do one last job before he is killed. This is the main plot of the film, and it centres around robbing gold stored under Buddha Mountain. There is not too much dialogue, but some parts don't need much. The whole film is very well acted and all the major actors put in superb performances especially Anthony Wong and Josie Ho. The sound is very good, with gunfire sounding natural. In summary a good heroic bloodshed movie, which all people interested in Hong Kong cinema will love. Definately film of the year in my view and deserved the award it got. Fatal Contact (2-Disc Special Edition) (Hong Kong Version)

December 11, 2006 Don't sell out over moneyThe film tells the story of Wu Jing (Kong) travelling to HK to perform a Chinese opera, then is spotted by local triads and encouraged to join a fight club with bets for money. The ending is horrible, yihkseeun, however I feel the director is trying to make a statement maybe, on HK society recently. The film is well paced for hong kong cinema fans, and fans of wuxia. Wu Jing and Miki put in great performances, Wu Jing is once more as good as in Sa Po Long. Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -
A Better Tomorrow II (Taiwan Version)
July 5, 2006 Brotherhood gangster filmThe sequel to a better tomorrow, sees the continuation of the themes John Woo (Yu Sum) expressed in the first film. The action takes place in HK and New York, and Chow Yun Fat says some very funny lines in english, in a restaurant scene. Basically Ho (Ti Lung) is on remand, and offers to go onto a case of his police brother Kit, as he feels its too dangerous for him. Ken, Mak Gor's brother from the last film, is running a chinese restaurant in New York. Ho was serving time when he found out kit was gonna infiltrate a ship yard ran by Lung (Dean Shek) Lung was present at a murder, so Ho smuggles Lung to New York. The Mafia, sent by Ko in HK, who has taken over the shipyard from Shek, stars a shootout, and Shek goes insane temporarilly, after witnessing it. Ken, and Lung return back to Hong Kong, and team up with Ho and Kit to avenge the death of Lung's daughter at the hands of triads. It comes down to the explosive climax. (30)Our Price: US$17.49Usually ships within 7 daysApril 11, 2006 Old school martial arts crime epicI opted for the 2 disc special edition of this, and am not dissapointed. The film is about stopping local crime lord of the triads, wong po played by Hung Kam Bo (Sammo Hung) However the officer on the case must retire due to cancer, and Donnie Yen takes over leading the police unit trying to put wong po behind bars. A shooting happens and Simon Yam who plays a good cop and his unit, try to frame wong po and his men for it. The film is very realistic, and I liked the nice side to wong po, with his family and taai taai (wife) The only character in the film who is totally amoral and severe is Jet. Jet is the sidekick of wong po, and is a lethal martial arts master, with a liking for killing with a tanto. He is played by Wu Jing, who says an excellent few lines. I thought the ending was harsh and sad. Every character apart from "Jet" has a good side. Simon Yam has an adopted daughter in the film which is a very nice subplot. Did you find this review helpful? John Woo's Hero Collection (Digitally Remastered)
January 5, 2006 Two greatsIn this boxset are two timeless films from the Vaults of HK cinema. Though John Woo has gone to Hollywood, he is returning to work with Jau Yun-Faat, on the Red Cliff, some period drama in mainland China. These are 2 films which are a must for fans of the genre, a better tomorrow and the killer. The first features 3 gangsters in 80's HK living the high life of the Haak Se-Wui (black society) which are basically triad gangs. They are into conterfeit notes, and making a profit from them. Waisse Lee is the Dragon Head Boss in the film. Brother of one of the members "Kit" is determined to make it in the police force However when "Ho" Ti-Lung lands in Prison in Taiwan for money smuggling when they are travelling from HK and are double crossed, he spends 3 yrs in jail. Back in HK Kit then meets Ho again when he is released. There is a rift between Ho and Kit which forms, and Ho tries to prove he has given up the triad life. In a shootout, Mark (Jau Yun-Faat) looses a leg and is useless to Waise and the gang. Just watch the film, at the end all 3 team up to take on their former triad. Values in the film show up, as the director is Chrstian, how to be a better person etc.
The Killer stars Jau Yun-Faat, dir. John Woo. Jeff a hitman (Jau Yun-Faat) blinds an attractive club singer and piano player in a shootout following a triad "hit" He then shows remorse as it's an accident. He accepts once last contract killing before he retires from Sidney, his mentor. This is to pay for a cornea transplant so Jennie (Sally Yeh) can see again. The typical John Woo values follow, particularly the contrast between darkness and light. A great part is also played by Shing Fui-On and Paul Yau (dark ruthless triads) and the attire contrasts to Jeff. Watch the ending.Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This)
