Inspired by the golden hits of late Canto-pop star Danny Chan, Hong Kong musical Once in Lifetime is the rare theater piece that has found massive crossover appeal. Tickets for the musical's first run in April 2007 sold out in only three days, prompting the organizers to schedule a second run in July before the musical has even staged. Popular indie singer-songwriter Chet Lam, who previously starred in the musicals Best Memories in My Life and Superman Forever, leads the all-star cast which includes Ellen of at17, singer-actresses Bondy Chiu and Jo Koo, and award-winning theater performers Joe Leung and Bonnie Lam. The musical follows the romantic encounters and coming-of-age experiences of a group of college students on the verge of graduation.

The Once in a Lifetime soundtrack contains 14 tracks, with Chet Lam, Ellen, and Bondy Chiu reinterpreting Danny Chan classics. In addition to title song Once in a Lifetime (Track 2), Chet Lam covers familiar hits like "Wait" (Track 9) and "When I Think of You" (Track 14), and joins with Ellen and Bondy Chiu for duets "Good-bye Puppy Love" (Track 5) and "Journey" (Track 11). Other songs on the track list include Ellen's version of "Love Preview" (Track 4) and Bondy Chiu's "Will Always Be Loving You" (Track 10). Bringing the music of the 1980s to the wistful present, this album gives voice to a new generation of singers and to that unchanging feeling of nostalgia.

The DVD comes with music videos for Once in a Lifetime, "Love Preview", and "Will Always Be Loving You".
