Many things can happen in one night in the delightful 2009 Mainland comedy One Night in Supermarket, the slick and hilarious debut feature from new-generation writer-director Yang Qing. Featuring a colorful ensemble cast led by popular actress Li Xiaolu (Blood Brothers), pop star Kimi Qiao, and Crazy Stone's Xu Zheng, One Night in Supermarket rolls a bit of Crazy Stone, Cashback, and Attack the Gas Station into one feel-good helter-skelter night-owl misadventure at a 24-hour supermarket.
It's another late night at the 24-hour neighborhood supermarket with cute no-nonsense cashier Xiaolian (Li Xiaolu) and shy guy Junwei (Kimi Qiao), who harbors a quiet crush on his co-worker. Sanshui (Xu Zheng) shows up yet again to demand money owed to him by the mart owner, who messed up his winning lottery ticket and refuses to pay compensation. This time Sanshui means business, and he's even brought muscle to help hold up the store and get back his rightful winnings. The only problem is there's not enough cash in the till. At Junwei's suggestion, Sanshui decides to run the mart to get his money. But one thing leads to another as different people show up in the wee hours including a clueless cop, the mart owner, and a real robber!
