"富仔記"少東鄭錦富到警局報案，說妻子已失蹤數天。有"街坊差人"之稱的劉探員要向同僚及女朋友證明自己的辦事能力，便決定調查此案。劉發現經營"富仔記"的是一名有哮喘病之羅姓女子，事有蹊蹺，他便搬到該店附近居住，繼續調查。一天突然有一女子自稱鄭妻，到警局消案，但劉始終覺得鄭，羅關係曖眛，他鍥而不捨，終於揭發了一宗命案。原來羅妹Lina因殺人入獄，要將女兒Mikly交託羅撫養，羅經營美容院，因不育引致離婚。不久羅認識了鄭，以為可託終生，便把美容院賣掉，與鄭共同經營"富仔記"。漸漸鄭露出真面目，要和羅分手，羅便把鄭妻殺死洩憤，卻不巧被 Mikly 看到。Lina責羅照顧Mikly不週，出獄後竟假扮鄭妻消案。劉說服羅自首，案情大白，劉立下大功。
