Penalty Life Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Like most of us (in America), I discovered the pillows through FLCL, and ever since, my life has changed. The combination of guitars and japanese with random engrish thrown is a sound that could be recreated.
The pillows' sound is unlike anything most people have ever heard. While the music FLCL is very crunchy, so to speak, Penalty Life places alot more intrest on the melody. The most interesting part of the album is the use 50's styled songs. This album is definetly my favorite(Fool on the Planet doesn't count).

progression Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
i've had this album for a few months now, and it's still a favorite. it was well worth the frickin' thirty dollars i spent on it.

"more melodic" seems to be a trend-phrase in most of the reviews i've read on this album, and i have to say that i agree with it. like many american fans of the pillows, i came across them through the flcl soundtrack. since then, they've been my favorite band. compared to the three albums that the flcl music was taken from, the music on "penalty life" really is a lot more melodic. there's more emphasis on the music and it's a bit more technical in it's composition-- an all-around great album.

An exellent band Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Although I haven't had the chance to listen to this cd yet, I can tell you that the Pillows as a whole are an exellent band. They have alot of energy, and have a good mix of fun, happy songs, and more mellow songs. Don't worry if you don't speak japanese, the music in the song itself and the way that the lyrics are sung, match the emotion and attitude found in the lyrics themselves.

I would suggest buying older cd's first, as they seem to be going out of print.

Excellent CD! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I first heard The Pillows thanks to their work on Fooly Cooly (Furi Kuri) and I immediately fell in love with the group! If your looking for new tunes, diffently pick this one up. Much more melodic than the group's pervious offerings, this is perhaps one of my fav CDs to listen to right now!
